Minsc stumbled through the brambles and landed flat on his face, almost impaling himself on the hilt of his sword. He mumbled to himself "What on earth was that creature? That scared the crap out of me, it came out of nowhere."
A deep, low, growl answers him. Slowly, a gigantic paw emerges from the shadow. Whatever is in the bushes is definitely not friendly...
Minsc clumsily pulls himself off of the ground, looking around. He sees the huge paw and quickly backs into a tree. He goes to grab his sword, only to find that it is not in its sheath. He frantically looks around, and sees it. Right between him and the monster.
Calena heard a low growl. The monsters she thought. They always came out at this time of night. She peered out of the tree where she was perched to see a large guy backing up against her tree. What's he doing? Anyone knows that the only safe place this time of night is in a tree she thought. She carefully pulled out her bow and strung it, ready to help if help was needed.
The menacing growl continues, and slowly, a horrific beast steps out of the shadows. It's long, gruesome fangs glint cruelly in the moonlight. It prepares ti spring...
It stumbled for a moment, then roared. The arrow seems to have only injured the creature. And now it is angry. Very angry.
Shoot, this is a strong one Calena thought, and stood up on her branch. She quickly aimed, and fired, again, hitting it's eye. Usually, that was enough to get the beasts to go away. But if this one could resist a shot between the eyes...
Again, the beast stopped. However, this time all it could do was emit a low whine. It was bleeding heavily from it's wounds. It will live. But will it fight? Or does it just need affection?
((Affection? LOL))Calena leaped out of the tree. She figured it would be weaker, and since this one was stronger than most, it wouldn't die. Now she could study it, and figure out what caused these creatures to haunt the area. She walked cautiously up to it's side, bow still in hand.
The creature looked at her. Immediately a mixture of fear, anger, and hatred appear in it's eyes. With one massive paw, it swings at her.
Calena gasped, and ducked, curls flying above her. She quickly tied back her hair in a green ribbon, and backed towards the tree, ready to climb up if needed. Seeing it about to swing again, she hopped onto a low branch, where she could watch it, but it couldn't harm her.
The beast carefully looked at her, obviously trying to determine whether or not it was worth ripping the tree out of the ground. It started licking it paws, deciding.
Calena dangled her feet just above it's reach. She spotted another, sturdy tree nearby, that she could leap to if needed.
Decision made. Realizing that Calena would not be easy prey, it turned tail and made it's way toward Minsc.
((Not necessarily)) Slowly the creature turned back towards Calena, but rather than anger, she saw only exhaustion. It walks slowly past her, heading off into the woods, leaving a trail of blood behind.
For miles, the creature walks, almost all the way into daybreak. When it finally does stop, it is in front of a gigantic cave, presumably it's den. From inside the cave comes the sound of squeaks.
((Well, here I am.)Minsc's heart rate slowed down. He wondered what on earth that creature was, and why she chose to save him. He decided to follow it, maybe it had some food he could consume. Maybe he could find out why she helped him out. But first, he grabbed his sword and stuck it into its sheath. He would have beat himself up very badly had he lost it, it was his deceased father's, and magical.
A tiny fairy settled onto his shoulder. She was obviously trying to hitch a ride. Quietly she started to play her flute, soft and hauntingly.
Calena slowed down when she neared the cave. "What...the..." she whispered to herself. Just then, she heard foot steps behind her. She whirled around, bow up and aimed. She lowered her bow when she saw it was the large guy.
A searing pain split through the back of her head. She whirled around, and to her dismay she saw that the creature had kits. And they were hungry, since the beast hadn't brought any food back.
((Claire, was that last post as the fairy, and is that on my shoulder?))Slightly taken aback, Minsc stuttered out "Er... Hello, there. Thank you for... saving me, from that... whatever it was, er.. I guess. Wha-what's your name?"
Minsc was glad she had lowered her bow, but knew he needed to remain wary. This girl knew what she was doing.
((Um...Claire? You're not really supposed to control other people's characters...))Calena was captivated for a moment. The baby creatures were so....cute... But then she got her mind under control. Since the baby was close, she couldn't use her bow. She whipped out her dagger, hidden in her sleeve. Actually she had several daggers, all hidden. But that didn't matter at the moment.
Calena grimaced, sad to be harming the baby, and quickly bonked it's head with the flat of her dagger. It fell to the earth, unconscious. She quickly yanked some moss off a tree, and handed it to Minsc. "Here, bandage your wound, tightly. The bite of those creatures have a poison in them that causes your blood to flow faster. The goal of it is to make you faint, so they can eat you. Luckily, that was only a baby, so it won't do as much damage. But still... you could die from loss of blood. Oh, and my name's Calena. Yours?"
Calena wondered what she could do about the whole situation. She had finally found a cave, where a nest of the creatures lived. She didn't want to kill them, she only wanted to make sure they didn't kill her. And other humans.
Maybe...the baby was hungry, Calena wondered. Having completely forgotten that she was talking to someone, she crept slightly away. Luckily, a rabbit hopped by soon after, and she quickly aimed, and shot it. She collected the dead body, and pulled the arrow out. Then she took it back to where the babies were. She tossed the rabbit amongst the crowd of kits, wondering what would happen.
Then she had an idea. She ran over to a dangling vine, and yanked it out of the tree it was in. The babies were in the cave. She looped the vine around a tree at one end of the entrance, then ran to the other side, and looped it around a tree there. She ran back and forth, until there was a small wall of vine. It was weak, though, she knew that. It wouldn't hold long.
Minsc groaned, and sat down."Er... thanks. What was that? My name is Minsc. You seem to know a lot about these, and why on earth do you think that vine will keep them in there?"
Minsc had many more questions, but for now, he just wanted to make the pain stop. He wondered what kind of poison could this be, he'd never heard of it before.
"I don't think the vine will keep them in there. It might hold them off, though. I think we'd better get back to my hide-out. I've got some herbs there that stop the pain. Questions answered later."Calena picked up a handful of stones from the ground, and started dropping them as she followed her own footsteps back to her hide-out. Hopefully, she would be able to find this place again.
Fey ran through the forest. She could hear noises. they made no sense. Suddenly a shadow came out of the darkness. Some kind of wild beast. Scrambling for her bow She knocked an arrow. "Stay back!" She shouted. She shot the arrow at the beast. It hit it in the shoulder, Burying itself in the beasts flesh. Now it's eyes burned with anger too. It kept coming. Fey knocked another arrow. She climbed up the rocks that were behind her. All the time keeping an eye on the creature, who was following her.
She cried out in pain, as a sharp rock caught her leg. She looked down to see blood dripping from a deep wound in her leg.
The creature came faster smelling the smell of blood.

Calena heard a cry. She looked at Minsc, who seemed to be recovering from the bite. She ran towards the cry, to see a girl. "So many people tonight," she muttered to herself. She picked up the girl and ran towards her tree. "Can you climb?" she asked.
((Sorry *Lunabell*))
The creature was hot on Fey's tracks. In a matter of seconds, she would be reduced to a pile of scraps. Then suddenly, the creature veered off it's path, jumped onto a tree, and landed dead in Fey's path. It lifted it's head and roared, echoing off into the distance. It settled onto it's haunches, getting ready to spring.
The unconscious baby quickly came back. However, all signs of aggression were gone. It followed Calena into the woods, happily squeaking the entire way.

"Of course I can climb." She said. "That's what I was doing before isn't it?" She realized she was being moody. "Sorry, If you can find a place I can hide I can fire without being hurt."
((Maralune, that didn't make much sense...)
The little baby ran up to Fey and started licking her hands. It obviously was confusing them both for it's mom.

"Well, climb up the tree!" Calena told Fey. "Quickly!"Calena looked at the baby. "Aren't you cute," she cooed at it, and picked it up, cradling it in her arms. She scampered up her tree. "You kill the creature, I'll watch the baby," she told Fey.
The little thing snuggled up close to Calena and started to whine. It still hadn't eaten for a long time!
Calena looked at the creature. "Oh, you poor, poor thing!" she said. "Here, eat some meat."Calena pulled a big hunk of meat out of her stock.
Greedily the little guy gobbled up all the meat. Then it yawned. Slowly, it starts to sag a little bit, and then suddenly, it's fast asleep.
Bree ran hard she needed to get away. She heard voices and slowed down quickly and silently.
((Claire it makes total sense))
Fey struggled up the tree. reaching behind her she pulled out her biggest arrow. She knocked it. This one is heavier She thought, thinking of the arrows flight. So I need to aim higher. She looked straight at the beast. "Times up." She muttered and shot it straight in the forhead. The beast staggered and fell. realizing how tired she was she drifted of to sleep, Still sitting in the tree.

((OMFG!! I'll try, but I don't know how...))
The beast heaved a sigh, then was still. However, not all was well. A bird flew over to Calena, and dropped a message into her lap. Then he looked at her curiously.

((Claire, hit the edit button. It's in the bottom right of your posts))Holding his arm tightly, Minsc asked Calena in a quiet, raspy voice "Can we get t'yer... hide-out thing? I'm 'na bit uh pain."
Minsc was losing control of what was going on. There was another girl, and she had some arrows. Maybe there was another creature. There was a bird. He wasn't really sure, all he knew was that he needed an antidote, something he lacked.
Fey woke up again about a minute later. She noticed that the people were still below her. She wearily climbed down, trying not to use her injured leg.
((I promise I won't write another post this long. But introductions are fun. XD))Eleuia, last of his race, tribe, nation, and creed, took one look at the cacophony only a few trees away from him, slipped deeper into the mud, and swore at some length, in as subdued a voice as he could manage.
"You could have warned me, Quetzalcoatl," he snapped, apparently to the tattoo coiling up his wrist.
The voice that emerged from the inky serpent etched into his skin was muffled, but unrepentant. "You would have turned around," it was saying now. "And then I would have had to spend another year or whatever it is bored out of my skull while you terrorize the forest and complain."
"Whereas now you will spend the very brief yet interesting remainder of your life being diced into snakeskin soup."
"Oh, come on, I'm a god!"
"Deposed."
"And a flying fire-breathing serpent!"
"Currently taking the lowly form of a bit of sacred paint because the northern air makes you sneeze."
"The POINT of all which being that I've got nothing to worry about from a few piddling arrows."
"Hah!" said Eleuia. "Thank you very much."
"I'd extend my divine sphere of protection over you too, obviously."
"Pfft. What divine sphere of protection? You're just an upstart lizard with bad breath!"
"I'll show you what," snapped Quetzalcoatl. "If I weren't here you'd already be a pincushion!"
This was actually true; Eleuia turned around, noted the cluster of arrows around his head dug deep into the bark of the oak behind him, and snorted.
"Fine," he said. "Continue with the godly protection gig and I'll go and see if they have any alcohol in repayment for my valuable medical services, all right?"
"Huh," said Quetzalcoatl, but subsided. Eleuia nodded to himself and marched through the underbrush into the open cave mouth, empty hands upraised.
"Hello," he said brightly, in the clunky northern language he was still struggling with. "I see that you have wounded. I know, uh, how to... patch up the hurt, yes; can I help you with this matter?" He paused, reordered his thoughts slightly, tried to recall the word, and added, "Oh, yes, and - do you have any beer?"
