Beyond Reality discussion

Are there any SF&F-related presents you're hoping for this holiday season? Any books or e-readers or movies or anything else related to books or science fiction and fantasy?

I really want a lightsaber, but I don't think I'm going to get it.

I could do with the gift of magic...

My list is huge for our family. We are all book and sci-fi/fantasy geeks. My oldest turned 6 in September so we figured it was time to introduce him to Star Wars so it's all he can talk about now. So we got him some Star Wars lego and some other themed gifts.

As for books, I'm getting Jean M. Auel's The Land of Painted Caves. I have the other books in the series so need to complete the set even though I heard this one isn't very good.

My husband is getting all the books in the Game of Thrones series by GRRM. I'll have to borrow them when he is done. ;)

My oldest is getting Amulet, Vol. 1: The Stonekeeper and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He's a good enough reader he shouldn't have too much difficulty with these books.

And my youngest is three, he reads too. We are getting him a book by Matthew Van Fleet. His kids books are so awesome.

I recived a gift card to Indigo, Canada's largest book retailer. Will probably pick up Falling to Earth: An Apollo 15 Astronaut's Journey to the Moon

I've repeatedly been told it's like the Force. Seriously, people, that joke has gone stale.

I didn't get anything SFF-related, but since in addition to a book geek I'm also a huge music geek, I was very pleased to find a gorgeous set of Bose headphones under my tree.

I was depressed before Christmas - I had a bad fall a couple of weeks ago and dislocated my shoulder and now am going to have to have surgery to repair rotater cuff - so I got myself the new Nook tablet. They had a deal that if you turned in your old one, you got a $50 giftcard, so that's what I did.

Well, turns out my daughters were giving me that for Christmas, so now it's all paid for! And it cheered me up immensely. I can read SF&F on it, of course, as well as a lot of other things. It's kind of like a hybrid iPad/Nook. Really, really nice.

Got my youngest granddaughter a B&N gift card, but most of my family doesn't read, so other than that, it was a reading free Christmas.

@Jim and @Ken - my son-in-law can fix anything with a paper clip and a roll of duct tape, or so my daughter says. :)

Sorry to hear about your fall, Sandra. Hope you have a speedy recovery. I hope it won't affect your pitching career!

And about your son-in-law - his last name wouldn't happen to be McGruber?

Yikes, Sandra! Hope your surgery goes smoothly and your recovery is uneventful. Reading will be a good way to take your mind off things! Glad you are enjoying the Nook Tablet. We gave my sister a basic Nook (which is what she wanted) and she is just getting into it.

Sorry to hear that, Sandra - hope everything goes well & you recover quickly & easily. I know someone who had rotator cuff surgery last spring, and it was far too long in PT and whatnot for her taste, but she was able to get back to white-water kayaking this fall =) I think if you're not trying to fit up for something quite so strenuous, though, it won't take nearly as long to get the clean bill of health!

LOL, ordinarily I don't do anything more strenuous than hold a book and run my vacuum cleaner.. Am hoping for a quick recovery.
