Introduce yourself!
I'm Melki. I joined to make Bookworm feel like less of a loser. Did I say loser? I meant to say loner.I'll be in the group until Sept/Oct, when I refuse to read a Star Trek/Star Wars book and Matt kicks me out.
Unless he kicks me out after reading this comment.
It was nice knowing you all.
Hi Im Melanie, I seem to be a little addicted to challenges so I joined up too.Im really not liking the Star Trek/Star Wars challenge either. lol
That's strike one Melki...one of, not sure yet.
FINE! I'll bend my high standards, yes I'm referring to Star Trek & Star Wars, and remove what I thought was a wonderful challenge.
I will *gag* listen to ideas from others and have a member chosen challenge. Please post in the "Other topics, genres, books..." http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...
I'll make up a poll or something and we'll vote?

Or YOU can read a Star Trek/Star Wars book, give us the synopsis, and then we'll make fun of you.I know, strike two.
Are you suggesting that you'd just read my reviews of Star [trak/warz] books? Wouldn't that be slightly worse than reading the real book?
I was really hoping we could compare and contrast the merits of interspecie interactions and the fact that everyone speaks english, perhaps the funny quirks of the captains...damned it, I had three dozen questions all typed up and ready to go!

I'd rather read Sophie Kinsella. *gagging noises*But if you ever decide to head back to school, sounds like you have your thesis already prepared.
Ah great idea - A Sophie Kinsella challenge. I'll change the titles immediately.
Actually, that wont be much of a challenge for me...seeing as I'll read them without motivation.

Just a reminder. This site is now Breastfeeding friendly. Feel free to breastfeed while being part of this group.

Hi y'all! Cyndi here. Melki invited me, I stopped by, liked what I saw , so now I am staying for a bit...I have varied tastes in lit..but the challenges look interesting. Good journey all.
I think Bookworm invited me. Or Melki. Whatever. I'm up for reading a lot of things. But if I'm going to read about interspecies relationships, I'd rather do it with Larry Niven than Star Trek/Star Wars.May have to have some suggestions about Canadian authors besides L.M. Montgomery.
And I flipping refuse to breastfeed here or anywhere else. I am so done with all that!
Yessss! Everyone I invited actually joined! My goal is to get so many members that Bookworm becomes completely befuddled when he tries to calculate everyone's points, and then he breaks down and cries.
Wikipedia has a massive list of Canadian authors. I forgot all about Montgomery. I think I even have one of her books in my stack. (Well, one of my stacks.)
Breastfeeding is not required.
Thank Goddess @ the breastfeeding...TMI for anyone involved. As far as challenges, I am always game for befuddling the moderator...sounds like some good mean girl activity..oops does that start me in the negative
I don't know. Bookworm can be pretty vindictive, PLUS, at the moment he has a tiny baby at home and is probably sleep-deprived, and possibly even sympathy-lactating.
I figured that was why he included the option.I just wanted to be really clear that I am NOT starting over. I've gotten both of my boys into their teens and I am staying that way.
I am just trying to be inclusive here with the breastfeeding. As a man I would like to see more of it...uh, that didn't sound quite right. I just mean, er, it's environmentally friendly?
Welcome new challengees...I am also up for the challenge of trying to keep track of points - thanks for the vote of confidence Melki.
If I find it too overwhelming...I'll just delete you all. Good luck.

If you want to see more breastfeeding, I hear there are websites for that. In Japan, there are probably vending machines.
I'm another Melki recruit (non breastfeeding) and am looking forward to confusing and befuddling Bookworm as much as possible mwhahahahahahahaha ;-D
You know, I've never been befuddled in my life - it sounds kind of fun actually. Thanks everyone.
Hi guys. Nobody invited me, so I guess I've just become a challenge crasher - but it does look like fun. Given my woeful reading rate so far this year though, I don't think I'll be winning anything. So given my low threat count, can I stay? *flutters eyelashes*:)
Hi Ruby! I should have invited you, but I assumed you were busy with your own awesome group - http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/6...We are honored to have you here. I believe you have the distinction of being our only Australian member.
Woohoo! Aussie Aussie Aussie!Yep - can't take us anywhere....
I am pretty busy with the group (and thanks for the plug!), but I think a few of the books I'm reading/have read this year/am likely to read would fit nicely with some of the challenges. So it could be a win/win.
So can we score books we've already read this year?
Hi Ruby,
Welcome to the Bookworm challenge (aka an attempt to befuddle me!). I have been allowing members to 'score' books that they have read since February.
Looks like your group is quite popular...I envy you. Although I prefer smaller groups, he says lying through his pearly whites.
Oh, and I have another connection to Australia. My Brother in law was born there.

LOL. Participation tends to go up and down depending on how much time I put in, I think. Luckily I have some time on my hands right now!
Just with the scoring thing, when you say "read since Feb.." do you include books that were started much earlier than that, but you only just finished? Sorry - I used to be a public servant. It's all details, details, details :)
Melki wrote: "You're not a public servant anymore? Who are you serving now?"Myself, mostly. It's more rewarding, but the pay is crap.
Melki wrote: "Since Bookworm is busy changing diapers, I'll be happy to welcome you to the group, Raine."Thank you so much! I'm part of Coffee and Books group, and saw this with the "challenge" tag.
US Mil in Germany currently, devouring the 2011 and 2012 BBC Top 100 lists... and any little challenges along the way :)
Hi Raine,
Welcome to the challenge. I noticed you are reading Terry Pratchett, good author. If you are looking for more groups to join, take a look at The Humour Club - http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/5... , right now we are working our way through the Discworld series...one a month for the next eight year or something like that, if my math is correct?

Hi Raine.I'll second the invite to the Humor Club. I can't believe I never knew about Pratchett until they told me about him.

Thank you so much! The club might be a bit much for me right now. I'm plowing through the BBC 2011 and 2012 lists that have a few Pratchett on them, and wouldn't be reading the whole Discworld series until I finish those lists. I started both in August 2011, and I have a bit to go. Hoping to finish the 2011 list before we PCS from Germany.

With reading through these lists, I've learned about quite a few writers that I wouldn't have otherwised picked up if it hadn't been on the list!
I'm Mat. I haven't participated in any sort of reading challenges since grade school Readathon days in the mid-70's. After my first Readathon, the school made my parents accompany me to take pledges, so they could warn people that I was a serious reader, not a dabbler, and that pledging $1/book could put them in financial distress when I came around to collect.Unfortunately, I don't have time to read like I did as a child. Goes with being an adult with a full-time soul-sucking drudgery...I mean...job.
You know, I'm so old we didn't really DO fundraisers when I was in gradeschool. I guess the government paid for our education??!
Hi Mat, I'm Mat too. You get a free point already!
Just joking.
Also a reminder that the winner of this year's challenge will not receive a cash prize.

I just joined Goodreads recently and can barely pull myself away from it so I figured I should be social too :). The name of your group caught my eye and I love the idea of challenging myself to read books that I may not pick up on my own.
Welcome. You can also just join the banter even if, like me (and our fearless leader, Bookworm himself) you aren't actually accumulating points.
Small correction Rebecca, I do have two points now (finally finished a challenge - a Tintin book bonus). It only took me a month and a half to complete one of my own challenges...isn't that sad?
Welcome Siobhan...ever read Ian Rankin, there is Siobhan in his detective Rebus series. I really enjoy his books, but, since they are not on this year's challenge I would recommend delaying the enjoyment until next year.

Thanks and now I really want to read Ian Rankin :) Next trip to the library may involve finding a novel in the series, along with a Grisham of course
I took out a Rebus DVD from the library the other day - based on the Ian Rankin Detective Rebus novels, and I couldn't watch it. It was one of those situations where I had a completely different idea of what Rebus looked like when I read the books.
Hi, I'm Wendy. Your book caught my eye and I really need to read a wider selection of books, so a Challenge it is.Totally love dystopian books so think I will start there.
Good luck Wendy...I may give you a point just for being the only other Canadian on here. Someone will now get my Harper jokes...well, that is, if I were making Harper jokes.
