Please nominate your pick for January, in the Realistic Fiction genre.
This could be any book that could actually happen - adventure, comedy, love story, etc. This would naturally exclude dragons, invisible men, and vampires (although I know several blood-suckers that might qualify).
Some possible titles to get you thinking are The Help by Kathryn Stockette, Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy, or The Firm by John Grisham. (These are just ideas to get you thinking in that genre - Choose anything that happens/could happen in the real world, and takes place after 1940 - pre-1940 would be historical fiction, which we'll save for another month.)
Thanks so much, and look out for upcoming polls to vote for January's selected book!

Paula Baker (paulabaker) | 21 comments I can't think of a thing yet. I'll have to do some looking online. :)

Leann | 53 comments Well, Pooooop. OK, so Karen assures me I will LOVE Maeve Binchy... thus, I am picking three of hers.

The Return Journey, The Lilac Bus and Dublins 4.
All by Maeve Binchy.

Paula Baker (paulabaker) | 21 comments I was talking to hubby Jim about this month's genre and how I couldn't think of anything and he said, "Oh, you mean like Clive Cussler and Steven Koonts." So there ya go! This explains why he knows and I don't, 'cause that's the stuff he likes to read, lol. :)

I've read some Clive Cussler and Steven Koonts and it didn't really thrill me and I guess this month's genre is not one of my favorites, but hey, that's why we're here...to break out of our comfort zone and read stuff we don't normally read!

I also think that some of Robin Cook's work would qualify, since he's always writing about some virus developed in a lab that gets out into the general public.

So those are some suggestions, but I don't have actual book titles to suggest, sorry.

Leann | 53 comments Ooh... Virus developed in a lab?? That sounds more like scifi. I'm in the mood for a book about real people, their lives, and the intertwining of all that lies in between.

I was totally up for Pettigrew, but karen listed it as already read this month. I like the idea of everyone experiencing the thing for the first time together.

Actually, I had just started Pettigrew, so I'll keep it as an option this month. I read several books at once, so it doesn't matter to me to put one on the back burner. That being said, we don't all HAVE to read books for the first time here. If you have an outstanding title that you just know would lead to lots of great discussion, please share!

Leann | 53 comments Yeah, I'd probably do Hunger games again if I got to do it as a group thing.

Paula Baker (paulabaker) | 21 comments I'm interested in reading Hunger Games. It's on my list of to-read!
