I know that there is a 'monthly challenge' topic already, but I wondered if anyone has a personal challenge for 2012?

I blogged about my challenge, but I thought I'd add it here as well.

I'm not adding specific titles right now since I find that too hard, but I am going to try to do the following:

I want to read 55 titles next year and have the following included:

4 classics
15 YA or MG titless
25 genre titles
25 indie titles
8 nonfiction titles
2 books published in 2012

Does anyone else have a challenge this year?

Carolyn F. I'm going to do the Goodreads yearly challenge again and just do a number of reads. I wanted to read 365 years and read over that number. Next year I'll try 400.

Lynda I want to complete or catch up on 25 series. I have over 900 books in my tbr shelf.

Most of them will come from there.

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 42 comments I've signed up for four challenges so far of varied time-frames to the point where I had to start an Excel sheet to keep track. It helps that some of the monthly challenges overlap with year long challenges so that I can count some of the reads more than once.

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) Using Excel is a great idea!

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 42 comments It was a necessity lol. I can sort by due date or title to cross off overlapping titles and keep track of which group the challenge is for. I love Excel.

I am planning to use my yahoo calendar to keep track.

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 42 comments Lynda, that's a good idea too! I've never cared for my e-mail calendars.

Tammy | 42 comments I'd really like to try to read at least four non-fiction titles this year, and looking at your list Michelle I think I may try to include a few classics in my to-read list as well

Cool! My daughter just finished "Frankenstein", and I've always wanted to read that, so I may start on it soon.

Excel would be a great way to keep track of books. Right now, GoodReads works pretty well for me. The advantage is that since there is a GR app on my phone, I can look up my TBR pile when I'm at the library or book store. I used to have to carry around a little notebook for that, lol.

Angelika | 24 comments I'm doing the Goodread challenge again. Maybe if I spend less time on my computer this year I'll make the challenge! I'm also doing an A-Z author challenge on another group plus an A-Z title challenge someone was doing but can't find where now...oh well, going to do it anyway.

message 12: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I have finished Envy by J.R. Ward.

1/25 of my catch-up/finish series challenge.

What is the GoodReads challenge? I want to try some of the challenges on the different discussion boards.

message 14: by Angelika (new)

Angelika | 24 comments The Goodreads Challenge is just listing a goal of how many books you are aiming to read this year. I'm trying for 75 again.

Christen (GoldiloxReads) | 36 comments I started my own reading challenge on my blog this year because I couldn't find any that fit what I wanted! I just posted the sign up post, so only a couple people have joined so far, but I would love more people to join!!! =)

The challenge is to read 2012 releases that are paranormal or fantasy (which you KNOW you're going to read anyway!). You can choose your level of dedication.

Shomeret | 233 comments I'm doing Around The World in 52 Books. So I'm looking for UF novels that take place in countries other than the U.S. I'm currently reading The Curse Breaker of Cairowhich I think is UF. Does anyone know of other international UF books that I can use for Around The World?

message 17: by Eliabeth (new)

Eliabeth Hawthorne (eliahawthorne) | 42 comments Amazon Queen (Amazon, #2) by Lori Devoti Takes place in a couple of the US states. It's the second in a series, but I read it as a standalone novel and didn't have any problem keeping up.

This sounds like such an interesting challenge! Good luck with it! Off the top of my head, I can only think of a few books that might be helpful:

Night Watch and The Secret History of Moscow (Russia)
Jack of Kinrowan: Jack the Giant-Killer and Drink Down the Moon (Canada)
Zoo City (South Africa)
Palimpsest (Japan & Italy)

message 19: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 233 comments Charles De Lint is a favorite author of mine, yet I haven't read some of his earlier work such as Jack of Kinrowan: Jack the Giant-Killer and Drink Down the Moon. Thanks for the suggestion.

message 20: by TheThirdLie (new)

TheThirdLie I'm going for 50 books this year. With work and new/competing hobbies I think this is a good goal. Last year I didn't quite make what I wanted to read so I lowered it a bit this year.

Aside from the 50 books, I would like to catch up/finish a few series I've only started. First series to do this with is October Daye by Seannen McGuire. I'd also like to finish Michael J Sullivan's The Riyria Revelation series. I might try to read more books by A. Lee Martinez as well.

I love De Lint, too. Jack the Giant-Killer is as good as the rest of his books, imho.

There's Kim Wilkins. The Infernal and The Autumn Castle are both set in Australia, as are a few of her other works.

Mike Carey's Felix Castor series is set in London. The first book is The Devil You Know.

Also from London is Mike Shevdon's Sixty-One Nails.

Tanya Huff's The Enchantment Emporium is set in Canada.

message 23: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 233 comments The Infernallooks intriguing even though I'm not a horror fan. I may read it at some point. I really did like what I read about The Autumn Castle. I forgot that I actually have Giants of the Frostthough I probably would have to disqualify it from the Around the World challenge for partially taking place in Asgard which is not in our world. I also have The Enchantment Emporium. It just hadn't occurred to me to use it for Canada.
