I haven't read Freedom's Landing, but her Crystal Singer series is very strong on the "romantic elements." Not the first one as much, but book two is almost completely a romance, and book three hovers in the middle. The first Dragons(Pern) books, with F'lar and Lessa were so classic early romance, that I almost can't believe they were put out as sci-fi. :) The I hate you/I love you cycles (If I remember correctly) were worthy of any straight-up romance at the time, and the romantic interaction bordered on violence which also happened a lot back then. F'lar shook Lessa so often, I swear she should have had shaken heroine syndrome.
Great books, but very infused with the romance of the era. :D
I read it a long time ago, so I don't remember the details, but I love you/I hate you is familiar, LOL. I also loved the Rowan books, which were more straight scifi. Loved all the mental talents and scifi and romances there too.
Yes. A big loss to the industry. Her books completely introduced me to scifi and fantasy! I was so sad to hear it. :(
I'm new to her myself, although I had heard of her Pern series. Being of a small country as I am, the things that filter through seem sometimes completely random. For instance that my library has the entire Freedom series in English, but none of her other works.Anyone have some specifics on that series?
Finished it entirely and gobbled it up, although the first book was by far the best and in the latter books some stuff happened that gave me the bejeebies.I'm not sure she's the author for me, but maybe I should judge her by the books she got famous with.
You're right, the Freedom series is a lesser known one. Reading about the struggles of a new colony is my favorite.Try the Pern series. It's her most famous and they also have romantic subplots.
I have read most of the Pern books. A lot of them contain romantic elements, but my favorites tended to be the ones containing little romance. The original trilogy was good, but my favorites were the Harper Hall Trilogy: Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, and Dragondrums. I read them as a teenager, when romance didn't interest me as much. I might enjoy the first trilogy better if I read them now.
I agree with you completely! I loved the Harper Hall trilogy...same event but from the craft hall perspectives. I was young when I read them as well, so that may be a factor for me too. I also read the Song, Singer, Drums series first, so that may come into play. I really loved Dragonsdawn about them finding the evidence that they actually came from space etc.
That one really struck me for some reason.
:)
I came across this deal on amzon last night
for $1.99 for the first 3 books in the serieshttp://www.amazon.com/Dragonriders-Pe...
I have been meaning to try this series for some time and this was too good of a deal to pass up...
I've slowly been making my way through her books. Right now I have
in my TBR library stack. This is a good series so far.
Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern will always be my fave from her. :D Oh, wait, I have to revise that. How can I choose between that one and the Rowan books!
