What other Goodreads groups do you participate in?

Pick-a-Shelf is the only group with challenges that I've joined on GR. And I have to say it's perfect for me. So I don't want to join any others unless they come highly recommended.

So I'd love to hear which other groups you really enjoy (and why), any groups you might have left (and why).

Adrienne Teague (ateague) | 339 comments I am a member of TNBBC (The Next Best Book Club). It's really, really big and has lots and lots of games and challenges and groups within it to look at and follow or not as the mood strikes you. I like it. Just since you asked...

I am a member of two other groups. Each offers something different to me.

Seasonal Reading Challenge (SRC) was the first that I joined. It's challenges are to be done in 3 months.

My Big Fat Booky Challenge-athon is (in my thinking) kind of an off-shoot of SRC. The challenges there vary from a month long to year long. Also many of the challenges are multiple book challenges.

This group (Pick-a-Shelf) has LOST, Pick-a-book Chain Gang, and monthly shelves which are unique and which I enjoy a lot.

My issue is balance. Trying to keep up with what I hope to do on each and balancing the various challenges.

Candiss (tantara) I am active in Dark Fiction (science fiction, fantasy, horror, literary fiction, etc., with a dark/psychological/heavy theme...most folks there read intelligent fiction, not gore, and rarely fluff.) We do challenges that usually go on for about 10 weeks at a time. It's a lot of fun and a great, smallish community.

I am also active in Beyond Reality, a medium-sized sf/f group. I am a mod there, so I'd better be active! I love the community there, and we have some wonderful books of the month.

I am a member of several other groups - The Novella Club, Mythic Fiction, The Alternative World, Sci Fi Aficianados, Historical Fictionistas, 1001 Books, the SF&F Book Club, and a couple of smaller author fan groups. I do books of the month in each/any of those when the book suits me, and I jump in to various discussions, but am not as regularly or heavily involved as with the first two I listed above.

I've lurked in SRC, and they look great, but I don't think I'd ever be able to shuffle their challenge with the Dark Fiction challenges, which I love.

As silly as it may sound, I've given this a lot of thought (whenever I consider paring my groups down to make my Goodreads life easier,) and if I had to pare down to only 3 groups, I'd pick this one (Pick-a-Shelf, of course,) Dark Fiction, and Beyond Realilty. The others are awesome, but I spend most of my GR time in those 3.

I used to be a member of a number of groups, but found that I was not giving many of them the time that they deserved, so now I am just in this one, The Tudor Lovers History Group, and I am the mod of the History of Royalty Group. I used to do the Around the World, the Shelf-a-thon, and the Seasonal Reading Challenge, but had to back off. :( There are some great challenges in these groups, though.

I am a member of various groups though am mostly here, seeing that am Mod ;)

I lurked in SRC and try to participate in the challenged (not very hard as I just don't have time to read that many books to complete the challenge in time period set).

Susan, I have a feeling that you may enjoy Reading With Style. It's a spin-off of the SRC challenge but there are less numbers of challenges and usually, challenged me to read the 'heavier' books (ie. more literature) but YA books are limited by lexile measurement.

Am also member of a few Aussie ones - just cuz :)
