Monkeymom | 3 comments Is there a way to remove books from the Kindle Fire Cloud? My youngest received a Kindle Fire for Christmas and all of my books are showing up in the Cloud section. I have him on my account (he's 8) and didn't want to create an account for him. Is there anyway to remove them?

Thanks,
Melissa

stormhawk | 77 comments Since you're both on the same account, I don't think so. If you delete them from the cloud, they'll be deleted from your account.

Check with customer service, though.

Wulfwyn (franceswulfwyn) | 2 comments I have the same problemwith my mom sharing my account. She isn't very comfortable with technology and just wants me to add books. She says she is too old to figure out shopping on a computer. So she keeps going to my cloud and asking me what's this book? And I keep going umm mom not that one. How about this one. Haha. I need a parental lock for my mom on my cloud.

Regina (reginar) I emailed this issue to Amazon about 7 weeks ago. Suggesting that there be a way for the owner of an amazon account to password lock certain adult content books, music and movies that were purchased. Really there is no way to filter content. No response.

There is another solution though, not great. You can share the Amazon Prime benefits with people in your household. So I registered our Kindle Fire to my husband's name and created an account for him -- I just invited him from the manage my Amazon Prime membership page. But, that means the Apps have to be repurchased from the "new" account, the movies do as well, and the books are not transferable (unlike other Kindles where they are, the Kindle function on the Fire operates differently than on the other Kindles). But I did this as the best solution to keep the adult content out of my childrens' hands.

Christina a solution for you is for you to have your member sign in to your Amazon account with her kindle. Then have you log in from your computer and you send to her Kindle all the books you think are appropriate -- without her shopping around. I do that with my mom.

Amazon really needs to solve this problem. I urge you all to write to Amazon and suggest a parental lock on certain content. I really think the owner of the account being able to filter and password lock certain items is the best solution.

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 2 comments Or, everyone could just get separate accounts like they're supposed to.

Amazon has a valid reason for doing it this way.

Amazon actually allows account sharing for close friends and family members -- and even allows book clubs to do this. Another benefit which I touch on in my post where Amazon allows for household members to share Amazon Prime benefits.

message 7: by ♥Meagan♥ (new)

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 2 comments I know that and sharing is fine. But they have the option for separate accounts and make it easy so that you can have multiple accounts without a problem.

For kids, I think it makes sense to have a separate account you control so they can't access your books.

message 8: by Regina (last edited Dec 27, 2011 11:19AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) It does not solve the problem though. Without a parental control, there is no limit on what kids can access with the Fire.

Additionally, it also does not solve the problem if parents have already purchased books, movies, books and apps for kids to use before the Fire existed on the main account that they want to share. I have been discussing this issue on the internet and with people in real life and it is a wide spread issue that I just don't think Amazon has fully addressed and the solution you offer up would make many customers lose thousands and thousands of dollars in accessibility to content. This is particularly the case with long term customers from Amazon, like myself -- I have been purchasing music, movies and books from Amazon for years before the Fire existed and when I could control allowing viewership to my kids. The Fire changed the ballgame and Amazon just needs to catch up with how the content is controlled. I am confident that they will, but it is frustrating to deal with before they do.

ETA: Netflix recently released a parental control feature to its streaming. Amazon just needs to do something.

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) Hi all. I loaded ezPDF Reader on it since I have about 600 ebooks in PDF format.

My only real complaint is that the text-to-speach capability works MUCH better on the K3 than on the Fire and that's something I used frequently.

My question is this, does the Fire not use the Collections feature that the other Kindles use? I liked being able to put my books into collections and organize them. When you have hundreds of books, they really need to be organized. I can organize them easily in the ezPDF app but I haven't seen anything yet that looks like collections like on the older Kindles. I was just wondering how other people are organizing their large collections of books?

I've been wondering the same thing. I have hundreds of books on my K3, all in collections; but I don't think we have that option on the Fire...kind of sucks, but I still will use my K3 as my primary reader. I tried looking around but saw no options to make collections, it's all there as one big book shelf...read, unread, etc...

message 11: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa_wy) Oh, but no samples. I have a sample collection on my K3 with almost 200 samples, but no samples on the fire...oh well! I'm sure they will upgrade eventually or maybe there will be a Fire system update?

Oh well. I was hoping that someone had a great solution that I was missing! LOL! Like I said, for all my books that are PDFs, A LOT of them, I can put them in folders via the PDF app that I purchased so I have solved my problem that way, but still, I sure would like to put those 200 Kindle books in some kinda order... kinda drives me nuts to have them everywhere. I'm ADD and TOTALLY disorganized but the ONE thing that I always have organzied to the point of being anal is my bookshelves! And I gave my K3 to my daughter who is totally in love with it or I'd keep my books organized on it and go between the two. She's not about to let me have it back. LOL!

message 15: by stormhawk (new)

Jennifer (random jendsmit) (jendsmit) Cool that's what I've been doing :)

Does Kindle fire have text to speech? I can't find it on it.

message 18: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Nope. They had to take it off (if it was ever there) to appease the Narrator's Guild. The Narrators complained because of the "Text to Speech" on the regular Kindles and filed a suit.

It's still on the regular 3/4G Kindles.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow ... I am glad I have the regular one. It sounds funny but I love it. No wonder I couldn't find it on the fire... I don't like the way the regular kindle shows its books... the old nook is better. But the new kindle fire is great when I just want to look through the book covers. I guess I am dyslectic or something like it when I look for a book I want to read and it just has a title. LOL.... just has a title...LOL

message 20: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I use the text to speach to listen to books when driving. Sometimes that's the only time I get to read. If that can be called reading.

I like the fyre for audio books and multi-media. The combinatoin of Amazon Prime and Kindle Fire, which so far has been price worthy, has been wonderful. I've had a lot of shows and movies opened up for free and portable in ways I never would have on my Laptop.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

What? What the heck is fyre for audio books and where and how do I get it? I love audio books.... but they are expensive on itunes. I LOVE ...FREE.... thats why after I bought the nooks... a year later I bought the kindle ... more books ... more free books.

message 22: by The Pirate Ghost (last edited Apr 02, 2012 01:08PM) (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Well, the App is free. Just go "Apps" then "Store" and search for audiobile.com.

The App is free. If you go to a different source for audio books you may need a different App. If you join Audiobile.com, there is a monthly fee of $14.95, and I think you can pay for a year and get it cheaper. Every month they give you "one free Credit" that you can use to get a free audio book. Most of the audio books only cost a credit. So basically you get a 25 dollar book (or more) for 14.95.

Plus Audiobile has a page full of books on special for $4.95 which is where I got Dresden #1 narrated by Marsters, and Dresden #2.

You can download an manager device for your computer so you can listen there if you want or "push" it out to any of your mobile divices (but, the fire will down load it directly, as will your Kindle 3/4 but I think the sound is better through the Fire.

You'll need earphones or, what I use, a pair of add on speakers.

The speakers I have give good sound, they charge up through a USB pourt (with a connection to plug into the wall) and they are small and portable. I've even used the dinky aux speakers they started giving with computers instead of built in speakers. All work well.

I also went and purchased one of those "transmitter" things that plug into your cigaret lighter in the car, then plug into the earphone jack and broadcast the story to your car radio. (Some cars have a jack that you can plug an MP3 player into directly. The cords for that cost from 6-20 dollars.

I should also add that Audiobile's audio books do play on the kindle 3/4 and they would probably play on the Kindle Fire without the App, but, the App is what I use.

Just like "Hulu.com" has a lot of free movies, Amazon Prime allows you to "teast drive" some audio books for free (like borrowing them) and I'm sure that if your library allowed you to download an audio book then you could "send it" to your Fire, even if you had to down load it on your home coputer first then use the audiobile manager to "push" it to the fire.

The speakers I bought cost about 40 bucks, but there are lots of options that are as inexpensive as 10-15 dollars if you want to shop around.

The Transmitter addapter thing for the car was about $40 bucks, but that price is down from the first one I bought years ago. You may find one cheaper somewhere. You can always bring your portable speakers into the car with you.

If your interested, I'll find the speakers and transmitter thingy I use in the car and send you a link.

OMG..... Thank you Hugh..... LOL.... I am like a raccoon caught in head lights..... I am going to have to process this.... wrap my brain around it or have my daughter do this... or my head might explode.

message 24: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I forgot to say, I use the speakers because the speakers built into the fire work okay, but they don't get very loud so, to use them, you kind of have to have the Fire in your lap. with the speakers, I can move around a good sized room and still hear every word.

I also purchased a battery that charges up through a usb/plug connection and has a lot of different "jacks" one of which will plug into my Kindle Fire (and my cellphone, and my iPod, and lots of other things). That basically gives me an extra 2-4 hours on the Fire's battery.

It also works as a flashlight!

When I get home, I'll send you links, I bought everything through Amazon anyway.

You can find this stuff at walmart too.

(I also use the speakers and transmitter thingy with the text to speech feature on the Kindle 3/4)

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I love amazon...... never go to walmart.... Thank you so much Hugh.

So I will be able to listen to books on my kindle fire... with a normal sounding voice?

message 27: by The Pirate Ghost (last edited Apr 02, 2012 02:54PM) (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Okay, as it stands, you can listen to audio books on your kindle fire right now. You'll just be stuck with the headphones or the speakers built into the kindle fire. I found I wanted something louder.

I'm sure there are a lot of formats that will play on the Kindle Fire. I chose Audible.

If you go through Amazon/Amazon Fir, you can get freebies and cut rate for the first few months. Audible is a Pay service. here's the link.

http://www.audible.com

You can download the App for free on your Kindle Fire, just go to Apps then to "store" then search for audible.com and you should find the free App. A free App does not mean free service, but you have to have the app to use the site.

For speakers, I've used the dinky plug in the wall JBL speakers that came with the last desk top computer that blew up. (one of thsoe that is so cheap, the speakers don't come embeded in the monitor but stand alone.)

These are the speakers that I use and I like them very much.

http://www.amazon.com/GTMax-Portable-...

You can use any external speakers that plug into a headphone jack.

This is the tunecast unit that I like. There are lots of them, some do not charge, some do. they are various prices... I use something like this.

http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Tunecast...

You don't need a battery, but, I use one because I often forget t charge my phone, the Kindle etc. this is the one that I use and it gets me about 2-4 more hours.

http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-Extern...

it comes with a lot of different jacks that work on everything from iPod to smart phone to kindle and kindle fire.

I also like using a stylus and I have a good set of headphones, also bought through amazon that weren't too expensife for when I am walking the dog etc.

I hope that helps.

message 28: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) and yes, you will be able to listen to a professional, human narrator tell you a story.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Og great ...so I will be able to get that computerized voice out of my head... though I will miss her....

message 30: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Well, I tend to split time between one and the other. THe audiobooks too fast for me, so I still have need to use my kindle 3. I can't afford to buy a new audio book every time I change to a new read and I have a lot of books on my kindle that I haven't read yet.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

What did amazon do with the kindle that has text to speech???? Can you still buy them or don't they sell them anymore?

Me too. I have a LOT of books I haven't read yet on my kindle ... because they offer so many free books. I love the audio books when the books are too stressful. I put it on fast when they get too stressful. LOL
I have a few recipe books on there and they are great to listen to.
And

message 32: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Recipe book... that sounds like a cure for insomia, listening to an electronicly animated voice toiling through Julia Childs recipe for Cheese Soufle'

I find if you make sure you take advantage of the one free book a month (the free credit) it's worth the membership fee.

I always look for 20+ hour, unabridged books. So far, I haven't been disappointed.

The The War of the Worlds audio book for $4.95 turned out to be a wonderful audio-read experience for me.

message 33: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 03, 2012 07:13AM) (new)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7tM5E...

This is Julia... re incarnated.... although I don't believe in it .... this would be a strong case for it.

I find any book on the kindle's text to speech will put you to sleep if you relax too much....
I am a prime member... have been for years and just recently figured out how to read a book from there ...only one and now it is time to pick another book and have found I have forgotten how I did it in the first place.
I got rid of my aluminum pots years ago and never use regular deodorant. What the heck.....

War of the worlds????? Is it better than the movie versions? I didn't like them. They might have ruined what would be a good book for me. LOL
I just listened to a book One Second After ... I read the book about a year ago. It was good but no happy ending for me.... stressful. To real. I like disaster movies but romance reads. A movie is 1-2 hours and short stress but books occupy too many hours to be reading stress stuff. So it is mostly fluffy reads and action movies.
But audio books have opened a whole new world..... hey disney...

message 34: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) The book is better than the movie versions, "IF" you are comfortable with the tone and pace of classics.

In fact, the audio-version I listened to had a very "Richard Burton-esque" sounding voice and I though it was fabulous.

Classics are more narrative and less dialog and "Scene" than modern reads. If you don't like classics, then save the bucks, if you do, this is a good read.

And it is HEA, but only after a lot of strife. I love the part about "The Thunderchild." Which you can hear immortalized by Justin Hayword of the Moody Blues on Jeff Waynes Musical Version. (Which I happen to love)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-reAah...

Richard Burton is the Narrator, Justin Hayword is the singer.

message 35: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Oh, and I forgot to mention that you can Download a Youtube app that works on Kindle Fire too.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Download from amazon?

I LOVE Richard Burton and his voice. One of my favorite movies with him is The Taming of The Shrew. .... Hey we should watch that tonight.... or Sergeant York... anywayssss.

I might just like the book, because of the voice.

message 37: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) It's a free App, you should be able to get it through Amazon, if not, do it through the web brouser. (I'm not sure where I got it, but, I think it was through free apps from amazon.)
