I'm in vacation mode. The kids are home and husband is home. I won't be getting much reading in this week, but working on The Snowman and A Confederacy of Dunces.

I am finishing up Flash and Bones, which is pretty good, and am also reading Turn of Mind, which is kind of creepy.I hope everyone is having a great holiday season!

I thought Turn of Mind was kind of creepy too!
I finished No Country for Old Men. Loved it and think the movie is a good compliment to the book.I'm going to start One Day this evening.
Mary wrote: "Creepy good, or creepy not worth it?"Mary, so far creepy good. And it's the characters who provide the creep factor because you just can't get a clear picture of who tells the truth.
It's on my shelf -- have had it for a while. I hope it continues to be "creepy good" for you! I always like to hear what you think about books!
We didn't leave the house yesterday except to hit the library. I finished The Art of Fielding, which was fantastic! Today I started Last Night in Twisted River. It's a bit of a slow beginner, but my husband listened to it a few weeks ago and assures me it is a great story.
Heather, stick with Twisted River. It is slow going, but it is a decent, character driven story.I'm reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle as well as In the Path of Falling Objects, both of which have been slow going for me. Not because they are bad books, simply because so much else has been going on.
I HAD planned to spend the whole week reading, but my husband started a home improvement project, so I'm stuck handing him tools and providing moral support. I'd still like to try to squeeze in two more books before the end of the year.

Nothing like being a handyman helper for a week.
Caroline wrote: "I just started Let the Right One In on 12/24 and am liking it."Caroline - I really liked Let the Right One In. Very creepy. Have you seen either the American or Swedish version of the movie?
I saw the Swedish version, but haven't read the novel. I didn't even know it was a book until someone mentioned in here. The movie was very good.I've seen the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as well as the other two. I don't think I will see the American version, even though I adore Daniel Craig.

I have not, but I know the American one came out fairly recently, right? When did the Swedish movie come out?

It's a murder mystery but really more of a psychological thriller. And I especially appreciate the fact that it cannot become a series.
Will finish As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child and Avis DeVoto today, The book has been a wonderful, intimate, peek into the lives of two very interesting women, Julia Child and Avis Devoto. What fun it's been be part of their journey during the 50's, when their letters might include details about Mccarthy trials and their complete hatred of him, and then followed by the best way to make Mayonnaise.
Love reading Avis's joy about getting a dishwasher, imagine pushing a button and having dishes cleaned, and Julie's excitement about having "air" conditioning, a new luxury, in Washington, DC during a 100 degree heat spell.
I'll miss these ole' gals ..................................
Raced through The Oriental Wife, which I liked, and am getting ready to start The Leftovers as my last book of 2011.
Finished "Please Look After Mom," which I almost couldn't take. It was haunting and broke my heart again and again. Now I'm reading "Maine" then possibly "The Snowman". I love my Swedish writers.
I'm currently reading Long Gone by Alafair Burke. I hadn't realized it was not part of her Samantha Kincaid series, but so far it's quite intriguing. Next up is probably Turn of Mind, although I might go for something lighter like Triple Shot by Sandra Balzo or maybe it's time for Explosive Eighteen. Our library has been closed since the 23rd & finally opens again on the 3rd. I get very anxious when that happens even though I've got plenty of other things here I could read.
