Nina (graycodekitty) | 18 comments Cool, we are reading some of the same books (Calligrapher's Daughter, Hummingbird's Daughter, and maybe Love in the Time of Cholera). Beyond the Sky and the Earth looks great, I need to read that sometime.

Constance (Lieber) | 54 comments I'm also reading Half of a Yellow Sun, which I am excited about because I have really never read much African literature -- except for European/African stuff like Karen Blixen. What is the book you have listed for Poland about?

message 4: by Akila (new)

Akila (ladyofthepack) Gck - That is nice to know. I wanted to read some non-fiction as well, so I added Beyond the Sky and the Earth.

Constance - I haven't read any African litt either. This challenge is a great way of reading books we wouldn't have read otherwise. Mosaic is a book spanning five generations of a family set in Poland starting in 1890s. I love fiction with a bit of history in it. Thought it would make a good read!

Will check your lists for some inspiration to complete mine!

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments Welcome, Akila! I've added your selections to the master lists.

I loved The Hummingbird's Daughter, and read Confederacy of Dunces when I went to New Orleans, and laughed so much I embarrassed myself waiting for my plane....

I was checking out the books on some books on your list by clicking on the links and noticed that the link to The Bad Girl by Mario Vargas Llosa took me to a different book page. It's at: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61...

Kat (katzombie) | 49 comments I loved The Thorn Birds - I must have read it four or five times in my late teens. I bought a new copy when I moved to the Netherlands but I've never had the chance to read it - I might have to put it as a substitute for my Australia book!

I recently bought The Thorn Birds in a sale along with a few other books. I also want to re-read it.
