Lord of the Flies was a great book. It had a lot of depth to it both naturally and spiritually.

I love The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men made me cry!! Animal Farm made me wanna slap a pig!!

Animal farm was AWFUL we spent four months on it in my honors reading class (it isn't that big of a book)

I feel for you. I had to do it my freshman year along with Silas Marner lets just say sparknotes became my goodest best friend.

Dracula, Of Mice and Men, 1984, Lord of the Rings (I consider them to be classics). I hated A Tale of Two Cities and Heart of Darkness.

I have Dracula on my Nook and I'm working to get it read. That's my personal goal for this year...read some great classics.

I want to read 5 classics this year, among other genres. I've read Pride and Prejudice, but I felt like it kept dragging on.

I'm reading Dracula by Bram Stoker and Hamlet by William Shakespeare (for school) I haven't gotten far on Dracula yet, but I'm loveing Hamlet!! Any Shakesphere lovers out there???

I don't want to see the play/movie yet!! I want to be surprised when I finish the play. I won't even let myself read ahead!

It takes a while to get into the classics becuase of the language and vocabulary.

I'm reading Crime and Punishment right now and if previously had any desire to work with mental patients it is now gone. I have no patience for the main character because he know better and I'd really just like to slap him........repeatedly

Hamlet was awesome. It was my first experience with Shakespheare and I was very inpressed although sad with it (:

Cassandra Giovanni | 90 comments I love classics--my soft spot is ANYTHING Jane Austen...especiallyEmma. I am also a Shakespeare fanatic...The Taming of the ShrewMuch Ado About Nothing are just two of my favorites. Along the lines of Shakespeare, Milton's Paradise Lost.
For a truly haunting, yet a bit difficult to get through due to length is Bronte's Wuthering Heights.
My favorite quote of all time:

"I know that ghosts have wandered on earth. Be with me always—take any form—drive me mad! Only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you! Oh, God! It is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!"

Kirstin | 57 comments One of my all time favorite novels is Jane Eyre by charlotte bronte. It may take a bit to get into the story but once i was well into it i couldnt put it down.

Rachel (bookwyrmrachel) My favorite is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice. I know some people find it hard to get through the Old English, but it's really very witty. And once you read the real book, you can enjoy the zombie series. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Dawn of the Dreadfuls by Steve Hockensmith Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Dreadfully Ever After by Steve Hockensmith
Also I recently read A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens A Tale of Two Cities. It was my second time trying to read it, so I totally understand that it can be a difficult book, but it was totally worth it.

Wow - can't believe no one has mentioned Watership Down by Richard Adams!! Call it Lord of the Rings for rabbits! :) A great fantasy-adventure about a group of rabbits who set out on a long and perilous journey to find a new home.

Watership Down by Richard Adams

It was my #1 favorite in my teens and I'm reading it again now after about 25 years. There's a great animated movie version, too.

I'll be getting to read some great (or so I hear) classics for school this upcoming semester! I'm so excited which is kinda scarey considering the authors I'll be reading.
