Elizabeth (Alaska) Do you have a goal for your 2012 List Reading?

I'm currently at 72 total read for the combined list, and I'd like to see if I can crack 100 before the end of the year.

message 2: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin | 205 comments I\ve got about twenty-seven books from the list slated to be read this year. If I can do more than that, I\ll be happy - if I can hit 200 on the list I\ll be thrilled, but the initial 27 is my current goal.

message 3: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) I am gonna have to look at the list and see what I have, but I am aiming for 12 list books (one each month).

message 4: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mmbirch3) | 38 comments I've read 54 so far, so if I could make it to at least 70, that'd be awesome.

message 5: by Amanda (last edited Jan 01, 2012 10:50AM) (new)

Amanda | 191 comments I would like to reach 150.

Tanya (aka ListObsessedReader) (listobsessed) | 108 comments I am aiming to reach 200 of the 3 combined lists this year!

message 7: by Annina (new)

Annina | 71 comments My goal is to reach 50 books.. I have read 35 now, so it's 15 books for year 2012.

message 8: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (zildjian35) | 22 comments Trying to hit the 101 mark (10%) this year. Currently sitting at 87 so I need to read 14 list books to reach my goal.

message 9: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katats) | 150 comments I would like to read 20 list books this year, bringing me to 125 total. I usually try for two a month, but this will give me breathing room for busy times.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I am trying to read 11-15 books from the list this year. I am hosting a challenge on my blog fi anyone is interested in joining.

message 11: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 251 comments My overall goal for the year is 100 books. If at least 10 of them are list books, I'll be happy. However, I also want to read chunkier books this year, so I may fall short with both goals, but it would be worth it to get some door-stoppers out of the way! :)

message 12: by Judith (last edited Jan 03, 2012 09:18AM) (new)

Judith (jloucks) | 1202 comments I'm going to set my list books reading goal to 50 this year. I usually read from 50 to 55 from the list each year.

I'm too old to read more slowly, and the 50 will take me well into the 500 range from the combined lists.

message 13: by Tara (new)

Tara A (quartinsession) | 59 comments My goal is to read all the list books I already own - which number 22.

If that goes well, I'm going to try to live up to the info I've plugged into the stats page on the spreadsheet and read 3 per month, for a total of 36 on the year. Planning on reading some big ones though (Clarissa....eek) so not sure if I will make it past the initial 22.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Judith wrote: "I'm too old to read more slowly, and the 50 will take me well into the 500 range from the combined lists. "

And I'm too old to read more quickly. Maybe we should meet somewhere and average each other out!

message 15: by Bea (new)

Bea | 110 comments I have to read a book a week to reach my goal of finishing the core list by age 72 - so that's my goal - 52 books. That will get me to 161 books from the core list.

My Goodreads goal is 72 books for 2012.

message 16: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I'd like for at least half of my 2012 reading to come from the 1001 list, which shouldn't be very hard since the majority of the books I own are from at least one of the 1001 lists.

message 17: by Bucket (new)

Bucket | 248 comments I'm at 91, so I'm going for 9 this year to hit 100! Here's what I plan to read:

1. In Search of Lost Time, by Marcel Proust (I've read the first book and plan to start book 2 next week. Hopefully I can get to 3-7 this year too!)

2. Love Medicine, Louise Erdrich

3. Tom Jones, Henry Fielding

4. The Inheritance of Loss, Kiran Desai

5. The Cider House Rules, John Irving

6. Death in Venice, Thomas Mann

7. Sometimes a Great Notion, Ken Kesey

8. War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy

9. Around the World in 80 Days, Jules Verne

message 18: by Debsp (new)

Debsp I would like to read 26 off the list. That would bring me up to 70. I think I can handle one every two weeks.

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky Aitchison (becky6229) | 20 comments My overall goal is 50 books for the year, but my list goal is at least 26, which would bring me to 115. Anything over that would be a really nice surprise.

message 20: by Karina (new)

Karina | 401 comments I goal is to read 24, 2 a month in addition to whatever else I decide to read that isn't on the list!

message 21: by Lisa (new)

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 352 comments My overall goal for the year is 100 books. I will most likely concentrate on books from the 3 combined lists, & I get the feeling we'll see a 4th list released sometime this year, just to mess with our heads! I just finished Ethan Frome & Summer by Edith Wharton, & pulled The Fall of the House of Usher & others by Poe off the library shelf. Since Poe has several on the combined lists, knocking those off will get me closer too :) I'm going to try knocking out as many of the "short reads" as possible this year FIRST, then go after at least one of the thicker reads. I think that's a "do-able" goal for me.

message 22: by Anthony (new)

Anthony DeCastro | 168 comments I'd like to read 26. 1 every two weeks.

message 23: by Lisa of Hopewell (new)

Lisa of Hopewell (hopewell) | 7 comments I'll pick two or three to read this year. I also pick two or three so-called classics I've missed and one or two totally out of my "comfort zone" books. The rest are just what I want to read.

message 24: by Rosemary (last edited Feb 14, 2012 02:47PM) (new)

Rosemary | 106 comments I read 52 books from the list last year, but I don't think I will have so much time to read this year, so my goal for 2012 is 25 list books. That will bring me to 350.

message 25: by Dana (new)

Dana | 9 comments I have 29 finished. If I crack 50 this year, I'll be satisfied.

message 26: by Bryan (new)

Bryan (bryanr) | 3 comments I'm presently at 135 and will attempt to continue my annual goal of 24 list books per year (2 a month). I'm trying to alternate longer reads with shorter ones, although lately the shorter ones have been taking me longer to get through.

message 27: by Mikela (last edited Jan 09, 2012 07:18AM) (new)

Mikela | 378 comments I'm currently at 129, hopefully 130 by tonight when I finish Kafka on the Shore. To get to 175 books on the core list by the end of the year seems like a realistic goal.

message 28: by Jonpaul (new)

Jonpaul 60. 60 will put me at 200 total.

message 29: by EShay (new)

EShay Fagan (eshay11) | 23 comments I want to read the books this group reads each month, and a few more, so I think 20 is a good goal for list books. I am going to try to read 36 books total for the year, but there are just so many good books out there! Not enough time in the day

message 30: by Eve (new)

Eve B. (partyp) | 4 comments I'm aiming for 20 this year. *Fingers & toes crossed* I tend to lean more toward the contemporary books. I would like to challenge myself more. It is less about quantity and more about quality this year.

message 31: by Yasmeen (new)

Yasmeen | 1 comments for the past almost four years i stopped reading frequently, but last October i decided to actually start reading books so this year i hope i'll finish 20.

message 32: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (magicandmystery11) | 6 comments I am using a much smaller list from a book by Daniel S. Burt called The Novel 100 as my guide and working on this much larger list at the same time. I read about a book a month from the littler list. You can follow my progress in the goodreads group "The Novel 100".

I will be reading at least:

Finnegan's Wake
The Man Without Qualities
Gravity's Rainbow
The Portrait of a Lady
Women in Love
The Red and the Black
Tristram Shandy
Dead Souls
Tess of D'Ubervilles
Buddenbrooks
Le Pere Goriot
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Since I have already read 38 of the list of 1001 that would put me at 48. I will probably reach 50 from the list this year(woo hoo!)because I read faster than a book a month and will tick a few others off the 1001 list as well!

message 33: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 106 comments Rosemary wrote: "I read 52 books from the list last year, but I don't think I will have so much time to read this year, so my goal for 2012 is 25 list books. That will bring me to 350."

I'm stunned! I've just reached this goal only 6 months into the year. But I shouldn't have ... I am not getting enough work done!

Time to up the goal! 15-20 more?

message 35: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary | 106 comments OK 15 more! Just don't tell my bank manager ;-)

How are you doing with your goal, Elizabeth? I often see you posting list books in the RwS group.

Elizabeth (Alaska) I'm pretty sure I'll go over 100 by the end of the year. I'm at 87 now with another 6-7 by the end of Summer. Thanks for asking!

message 37: by Mikela (new)

Mikela | 378 comments My goal in January was to reach 175 but since I'm currently at 187 I've revised my goal to 200. Would like to tackle Remembrance of Things Past sometime this year so that will really slow me down.

message 38: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin | 205 comments I've recently counted my book list entries, and was surprised to discover that of the 27 I planned to read i've read 26. which means, of course, that now my goal shifted to reading 50 this year. Hooray for shifting goals.

message 39: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (shereadsallbooks) | 34 comments I am currently at 69 and think I would like to try and hit 100. So I need 31 more books...

message 40: by Sunny (new)

Sunny (travellingsunny) | 96 comments I hadn't really thought about setting goals for this. I'm somewhere around 30 read, and just want to be sure to read one or two a month. Perhaps I'll hit 50 this year???

message 41: by Susan (new)

Susan | 31 comments I have never gone through the list and marked what I have already read so not sure where I am at numbers wise. Several of the books that I am reading for other challenges qualify so I will see where my readings take me this year.

message 42: by Sunny (new)

Sunny (travellingsunny) | 96 comments I had a hard time keeping track of which books were ON the list, so now I just added ALL 1294 of them (combined total of all three editions) to my TBR list and put on the 1294 shelf. As I read them, I move them to the 1294 read shelf, so I can get a quick count if needed.

message 43: by Mikela (new)

Mikela | 378 comments I too found it too difficult to keep track of books that I had ready access to and those I just wished to read so created a separate exclusive shelf marked "wish-list" for books that I want to read but have yet to obtain. The only books on my "to-read shelf" are those I have. That shelf is still so jammed full that it's hard to remember what's there which necessitated an additional exclusive shelf marked "tbr-soon". The only time I go to my "to-read" is to replace a book I've finished or for a group reads. This certainly has made selection a lot easier than before and I find myself able to find, read and cross off more list-books than before (average 10 per month). There are now 1001-books in each category and easily identified. Really works well for me.

message 44: by Susan (new)

Susan | 31 comments That sounds like a great strategy. My TBR list includes books I own, want, have reserved...completely out of control and does not have most of the "own " books listed. Have tried to come up with a sound solution...yours sounds great.

Elizabeth (Alaska) My TBR list includes only those books I own. I also have a Wish List, a 1001 Books, and a couple of library shelves (and some more that aren't pertinent to this discussion). I can use the Multiple Shelves option to see where my 1001 Books shelf intersects.

message 46: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Zink | 4 comments I am with Susan. My TBR list is quickly becoming a mess, and I just bought a second copy of a book I already had by following that list at the store! OOPS!I found one list of 1001 books and downloaded it. Is that the list you all are using? I am getting confused. I think my number read is about 35 of those, give or take, and I would like to read one per month off that list.

message 47: by Sunny (new)

Sunny (travellingsunny) | 96 comments I don't typically re-purchase books, but most of the books I read come from the library. My biggest issue was knowing WHICH books were LIST books. Sooo...

I created a spreadsheet of all 1,294 books (total unique books from all 3 lists.) Then, working from that list, added them all to a shelf that I call 1294 tbr OR 1294 read. So, I just check that shelf if I'm ready to read a LIST book and choose from there. Then, go get it.

message 48: by Susan (new)

Susan | 31 comments Valerie ... how did you download the list? Can you download it on Goodreads or do you download it elsewhere? I would at least like to have it on my Kindle Fire.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Susan - see the links here for a spreadsheet.

message 50: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Zink | 4 comments There you go! I used the links from here to get a download. One of them has a cool spreadsheet that you can mark up. I marked r for read and tbr for ones that I have acquired but not read yet. Yay!
