Rebecca I love the Study series and Touch of Power. They are both so amazing, but I want to know where reader's hearts lie. Do you prefer Valek or Kerrick, and why?
I've got to say, I still love Valek the most. I love that he has so many different sides to him, including an artistic side, he's not afraid to openly show his feelings for Yelena and he is occasonally a little cheeky.

Renée Valek! I don't just love Valek, but I'm in love with him! Every time his name is mentioned my stomach flutters! <3

Ferdy Valek hands down there is no competition between the two!!! Kerrick is awful.. he slapped Avry so hard she fell down, then he tortuted her by mannacling her to tree night after night for weeks without a blanket and with little food because she disagreed with him.. he didn't even feel any remorse or guilt for doing that to her - he just gave her a lame apology.. and he's also been grieving for his ex girlfriend for the last 4 years.. she was his first love and he must have loved her deeply for him too still be grieving after 4yrs.. so Avry just seems like a rebound and second best.. he hardly seemed that upset that Avry was going to die at the end and he more or less says to her that if he knew she could die healing Prince Ryne he wouldn't have pushed her so hard.. er how about saying that you would have stopped her from healing him altogether.. he basically said he still would have chosen his friend over her.. ugh he's one of the worst YA heroes I've ever read.. I hate him.. no offense to anyone who liked him:P

Becky Valek all the way!! He's just too much fun to read about, Kerrick was good but he's no Valek!

Emily I have to say that my heart is with Valek. However, I think that could definitely change if we see more of Kerrick in the next book(s) in the series.

Becky Good point, we do have much more on Valek than Kerrick and even he was a bit cold to Yelena in the beginning.

Rebecca Ferdy wrote: "he hardly seemed that upset that Avry was going to die at the end "

I know, I noticed that. I think we might see more development from him in the next book, but you'd think that if he was so in love with Avry he would've shown more emotion and be more upset. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed at that.

Ferdy I hope Kerrick improves in the next book because I wasn't impressed, he crossed the line from alpha male to a**hole male for me anyway. Valek was alpha and he treated Yelena very sweetly.

Rebecca Ferdy wrote: "I hope Kerrick improves in the next book because I wasn't impressed, he crossed the line from alpha male to a**hole male for me anyway. Valek was alpha and he treated Yelena very sweetly."

True, and there were many moments where Valek was a gentleman, even when we didn't want him to be lol

Mikka Valek. All the way. I wish. Literally. Haha.

Kayleigh Hyde Valek! I adore him :). He is by far one of my favourite males in a book!
I did like Kerrick though; but not to the same degree!

What Ferdy said! (also: Valek is simply awesome. He is loyal, he has principles, he is strong and thoughtful and we do actually get to see some of his emotional struggles, which makes him far more likable.)

Rebecca I was more convinced in Valek's feelings for Yelena than Kerrick was with Avery.

Veronica Mikka wrote: "Valek. All the way. I wish. Literally. Haha."

Hahahaha! Me too ;)

Cayra Valek!!!!

Kathryn I definitely prefer Valek, but maybe once I read more about Kerrick I might start to like him more.
Although the other male characters in the book are so much better!

~*I love Tea*~ There's no contest! Valek is far superior to anyone let alone Kerrick, hated the fact that he hit Avery! He seemed way to moody for far to long, and I liked the relationship between Yelena and Valek much more, it's stronger.

This..Valek is in whole different league to Kerrick.. Kerrick is one of the worst heroes I've read about.. I loathe heroes that abuse the heroine.. still can't get over the fact he slapped her, oh and that he was still grieving over his ex after 4 years!!

Becky Kerrick only slapped Avery once! And Valek seriously contemplated killing Yelena on more than one occasion! And as for Jael, he may have really loved her, and she betrayed him, so i think he was more angry and hurt over the betrayal than he was grieving....

When it comes down to it, Valek never hurt Yelena. Kerrick slapped Avery so hard she fell down.. I don't care that it was only once because once is more than enough for me.. having the 'hero' hit the heroine is a dealbreaker for me.

message 21: by Deanne (new)

Deanne Simply put... Valek!!! *sigh*

Becky I still think he may pull himself back into people's good books, plus Avery did also provoke him...

Becky and yet if i slapped a guy and claimed he provoked me it would be fine!

Ferdy Becky wrote: "and yet if i slapped a guy and claimed he provoked me it would be fine!"

For me, if a woman slaps or hits a guy it's just as disgusting as a man slapping a woman..the exception of course being the man or woman hitting to defend themselves against an attack.

Rebecca I have a feeling that Avry might fall in love with somebody else and get together with them, just like Opal in Sea Glass. I wasn't that convinced by their love for each other.

Becky its only the first book! she only realised that she liked him within the last few chapters

Rebecca Valek

Janysa wait is yelena and avery the same person... i forget?

message 29: by Veronica (last edited Mar 14, 2012 06:52PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Veronica No. Completely different series.

Yelena - Poison Study

Avery - Touch of Power

Janysa Ohh ok thx

Jessica who the hell is valek? coz i have no idea of what your talkin' 'bout. I know who Kerrick is through.

Renée you need to read mvs's study and glass series

Becky Jessica wrote: "who the hell is valek? coz i have no idea of what your talkin' 'bout. I know who Kerrick is through."

oh my life you haven't lived if you've never read a book with Valek in!!

I second that-you're missing out big time if you haven't read about Valek. Read Poison Study!

Janysa Yes I just finished reading it and I was omg wat.. this was awesome. Wish there was more romance in poison study though...

Rebecca Janysa wrote: "Yes I just finished reading it and I was omg wat.. this was awesome. Wish there was more romance in poison study though..."

I disagree, I thought there was a lot more romance in Poison Study than in Touch of Power. I loved the exchanges between Yelena and Valek :)

I think it's fair to say that Valek and Kerrick are equally violent. Maybe Kerrick is more violent towards Avery than Valek is towards Yelena (even though Valek considered killing Yelena at least three times) but still, they're both violent. Although, violence aside, I would still choose Valek. I just love everything about him!

Yes, there's no doubt that Valek and Kerrick are both violent. Even though Valek threatened Yelena, the bottom line is that he never hit her..if the hero/heroine is violent to the other that for me is a dealbreaker.
Even if Kerrick had never hit her though I would still choose Valek because I never once believed in Kerrick's love for Avery..he pretty much told her at the end that he would choose her dying over the prince. Even when she was dying he didn't seem all that emotional, he showed more emotion in regards to his ex. Maybe the next book will develop their relationship more..unfortunately I'll never like their relationship because of him hitting her in this book.

I completely agree! I was expecting to be moved at the end when she was dying, but I didn't feel anything. Because of the lack of romance, I do have a feeling that Avery might fall in love with somebody else in the second or third book, like in the (view spoiler) series.

Er..that's why she put as a spoiler..and it's clear the spoiler is about another series since it says 'like in the...series'.

Veronica Well, I've already read this book so I don't care about the spoilers. I didn't read the words afterwards because I wanted to read it as a fluid sentence. I'm sure I won;t be the only one who makes that mistake...

Tiffany I actually like Kerrick more than Valek. I don't actually know why though. To be honest, I'm not sure I can make a proper opinion about Kerrick yet anyway. There has only been one book with him and about how many books/short stories with Valek.

I think I may like Kerrick more because of the fact that I like Avry more than Yelena. Although, nothing can beat that moment Valek tells Yelena how he feels about her.

In saying that, Janco was always number one for me. Yelena can have Valek and Avry can have Kerrick, I will have Janco.

message 50: by Tiffany (last edited Mar 30, 2012 02:42AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tiffany Oh, and I know people said that they didn't like Kerrick because of him slapping her so I was just wondering how you guys feel about Opal and the guy she ends up with?
