I thought this novel was ok, but not phenomenal.  The story is set in 1941, where an 11 year old black girl prays for blue eyes.  However, this synopsis plays an almost non-existent role in the story except for a few brief mentions and the last three pages.
The rest of the novel was actually a little confusing and slow.  Each chapter focused on a different character, but it took a few pages to figure out which character it was.  And then when it returned to a character, I had to figure out where they had left off and where they were picking up again.  The story itself was choppy and, at times, seemed to lack a cohesive plotline.  Still, it was an interesting look at society during that time period.
