Mandy (chaosmandy) I was a bit disappointed that I only read 30-something books in 2011, so I've made the goal to read 75 books this year.

Have any of you made any goals in regards to how many books you want to read this year?

In 2012 I was fortunate to read a lot more than previous years (13 books in 13 weeks in 2009 not withstanding). My goal is to catch up on several books in my house currently that I need to read, this includes A Beautiful Mind and The 9 11 Investigations; Staff Reports of the 9 11 Commission: Excerpts From the House-Senate Joint Inquiry Report on 9 11 : Testimony From.

My goal is to not fall asleep after 2 pages! Makes for some slow progress...

MeiLin Miranda (meilin_miranda) | 2 comments My goal is to get out of the 19th century a little. o_O I read a ton of classic literature and have been on a Trollope bender. Luckily for me, I'm running out of Trollope. Sadly for me, I have a lot of research to do this year and it's keeping me in the 19th c, 18th c and classical times. Like Plutarch. oy.

Mandy (chaosmandy) I was looking at my 2011 reads shelf and I didn't read a lot new. There is a lot I'd like to read but I tend to only read new stuff if I have to so I can write a review.

So I think my goal needs to be reading more for fun in 2012

Sophie Brown (easyqueenie) I barely read anything in 2011, I need to change that. My goals are The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings trilogy to start with, I've also bought the first four Song of Ice & Fire novels as I loved the TV show - they're scaring me a little though!

One final goal is that I'm trying to buy up copies of every X-Files book I can get so I'm trying to work through that mountain. Luckily many are "junior" versions so they're quite easy going - often I can get through one in an hour or two.

Romi | 2 comments I'd like to finish reading a book within 6 months! Also must stop hoarding books and start reading them!

message 8: by Lara Amber (new)

Lara Amber (laraamber) In 2011 I signed up to read 100 books without really thinking through the whole "toddler and full time job" issue. It started to become work instead of fun and I was avoiding books that would take me longer to read because of either length or complexity/writing style. I did complete the challenge.

So in 2012 I signed up for only 52 books. That will give me enough breathing room to finish off the stragglers from my "Reread all the Classic Literature I Read Before Age 18" challenge. Plus some classic works I've never read like Middlemarch.

Natania Barron (nataniabarron) | 2 comments I had a great reading year in 2011. I even took a significant break from writing, sort of going back to my roots. I do a hybrid approach, reading books at night on the Kindle and listening to audiobooks on the way to and from work. I've been going about two to three books a month with this particular approach. I think I read more books in 2011 than I have since my son was born in 2006.

Hoping to continue to do so with suggestions from here!

Romi | 2 comments I've got to know how you do that! I was lucky to get one book read since my son was born! You must be very organised!

message 11: by Jean (new)

Jean | 1 comments My goal is 25 books. Nice round number, right? I was disappointed not to meet my goal last year. I think I need to start counting the chapter books I read with my 3 kids, too.

message 12: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline Houtman | 1 comments My goal is to read more and not feel guilty about it. Since I can now officially call myself a novelist, you would think that reading is part of my job, but I can't seem to justify reading during "working hours." Instead, I wait until the kids are in bed and only have enough energy for a chapter or two before I nod off.
Currently reading EVERY SOUL A STAR and enjoying it--lots of astronomy.

Mandy (chaosmandy) Reading is part of my job - but I need to find time to read stuff that I want to read too. Like The Hunger Games books - I'd like to read them before the movie comes out.

I told my husband that I'd really like a Kindle for my birthday in March. Hopefully we will have the money to get me one!

message 14: by Tristan (new)

Tristan Tarwater (backthatelfup) I read 10 books last year, though I did a A LOT of research. I also started some books but if they didn't grab me, I put them off to the side.

I'm hoping to read 20 books this year. It's hard to read with a kid and a pile of work. Hopefully I can find some books that have me foaming at the mouth to read them.

My goal is to read more for fun. I rarely read novels, just reams of non-fiction. So far I've read two novels in January, just now finishing a truly magical book The Night Circus.

message 16: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth_fox) | 1 comments My goal this year is 40 books (up from my total 28 in 2011). I'd also like to read more books of redeeming social value than the fun (but fluffy) books I read last year.

message 17: by Sky (new)

Sky Thibedeau (skylarkthibedeau) | 4 comments I tend to read the Lord of the Rings and Dune every year. It has been a while since I read 'The Hobbit'. My 2012 goal is to spend more time reading than playing in RPG's or trolling Social Networks. I also resolve to write more reviews!!!!!

message 18: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Goals... I've heard this word. I would *like* to read at least 50 books. I would *like to read 5 books already on my shelves before bringing any more strays into the house. We'll see if any of it happens.
