This wasn't a horrible book by any means, however it was thoroughly confusing when you go in expecting Karla and getting Ko. Jerry Westerby, a minor character from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, is the lead character in this and not a very likable one. Very difficult to get into and finish though the last 100 pages or so got a bit more interesting and are fairly important for the next installment.
