House of LeavesThe Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories
Lake Joi-les
I'm taking a shot in the dark with that last one. It was written by a high school class mate of mine who I haven't seen in years. The premise seems fun.
The booksHouse of Leaves
The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories
are both excellent.
Off the top of my head I would recommend;
Dead Sea by Brian Keene
HP Lovecraft: The Fiction Complete & Unabridged
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
Feed by Mira Grant
Black Butterflies by John Shirley
The RitualCrimson
Valley Of Scarecrow
Off Season
30 Days of Night
Echoes from the Dead
Highly recommended!
Hi everyone - this seems like a pretty fun group! Here's a list of some books that I read last year that I thought were really good:
DRACULAS by J.A. Konrath and others
Dweller by Jeff Strand
Contest by Matthew Reilly
Crustaceans by William Meikle
Clickers II: The Next Wave by J.F. Gonzales and Brian Keene (I liked the first Clickers as well, but I think the second one was even better!)
Depraved by Bryan Smith
These were all a lot of fun in my opinion. Fast reads and definitely not boring!
One of the BEST Horror books I've ever read...and I'm really picky.
This one really felt "real" to me. I haven't read it since I was like 18 (now 30) and if you've seen the movie (or the movie High Tension) this book will be ruined for you. But this is an amazing book and should be read by all horror lovers.
I am looking forward to finding some good horror books from this group. I like Dean Koontz, I have a few Joe Hill books, but I haven't read him yet.
The Best of Joe R. Lansdale will be my next choice. If anyone else is interested we can make a thing of it. One of the stories is "Bubba Hotep." Gotta love Joe Lansdale.
@Linda I am hoping for the same thing. I feel like I read a lot of Koontz/King. I am looking forward to some new authors!
@Bill I have never heard of him. I will have to go look into him!

If anyone is looking for a completely twisted/disturbing book...try Jack Kilborn's Endurance. I just recently found this author and have completely fallen victim to loving EVERYTHING about him. If you're a fan of the movies: texas chainsaw massacre or wrong turn...then you'll love this book! Happy reading!!

I just read one of those but I've been dying to read a couple of Kilborn's
Not ..heard..of..Joe R Lansdale! Someone get the defibrillators! He is a multi-talented writer of everything from horror to western (with a twist) and a fantastic sense of humor.Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill is one of the best ghost stories I have read (other than Ghost Story by Peter Straub). It gives me shivers and is so well written.
Hauntings & Horrors: The Collected Ghost Stories of E F Benson - £1.40 for Kindle at Amazon UK is pretty good value & his Ghost stories are old and spooky, he's one of my favourites

Great list, Kyle. I've read about half of your list. No Neiderman yet. May have to put him on my list.
Darren Shan's Demonata, read and loved this series recently :)
But this is still the scariest book for me just because I read it when I was a kid. My first horror book:

I actually like to see the film first and then read the book. The book is usually SO much better than the movie, that if I read the book first I'll hate the movie. But if I like the movie, I'll love the book :)
Here is another great freebie! - http://sweepingme.com/2012/03/free-eb...
