Brett Talley | 10 comments I will start! Some horror novels I have read lately that are great:

Jokers Club
Ghosts of Rosewood Asylum
Cinema of Shadows

I'll also throw in a word for my own book, That Which Should Not Be. About it, though, I am admittedly biased.

Bill Tucker (damndirtyapes) | 5 comments House of Leaves
The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories
Lake Joi-les

I'm taking a shot in the dark with that last one. It was written by a high school class mate of mine who I haven't seen in years. The premise seems fun.

Released (Agents of Evil, #1) by Megan Duncan

Its really good!

message 5: by Brett (new)

Brett (battlinjack) | 4 comments The books
House of Leaves
The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories
are both excellent.

Off the top of my head I would recommend;
Dead Sea by Brian Keene
HP Lovecraft: The Fiction Complete & Unabridged
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill
Feed by Mira Grant
Black Butterflies by John Shirley

Eric Blood | 1 comments Hi everyone - this seems like a pretty fun group!

Here's a list of some books that I read last year that I thought were really good:

DRACULAS by J.A. Konrath and others
Dweller by Jeff Strand
Contest by Matthew Reilly
Crustaceans by William Meikle
Clickers II: The Next Wave by J.F. Gonzales and Brian Keene (I liked the first Clickers as well, but I think the second one was even better!)
Depraved by Bryan Smith

These were all a lot of fun in my opinion. Fast reads and definitely not boring!

Kat (kat2011) | 16 comments Intensity by Dean Koontz

One of the BEST Horror books I've ever read...and I'm really picky.

This one really felt "real" to me. I haven't read it since I was like 18 (now 30) and if you've seen the movie (or the movie High Tension) this book will be ruined for you. But this is an amazing book and should be read by all horror lovers.

message 10: by Linda (new)

Linda Boyd (boydlinda95gmailcom) I am looking forward to finding some good horror books from this group. I like Dean Koontz, I have a few Joe Hill books, but I haven't read him yet.

message 11: by Bill (new)

Bill Tucker (damndirtyapes) | 5 comments The Best of Joe R. Lansdale will be my next choice. If anyone else is interested we can make a thing of it. One of the stories is "Bubba Hotep." Gotta love Joe Lansdale.

@Linda I am hoping for the same thing. I feel like I read a lot of Koontz/King. I am looking forward to some new authors!

@Bill I have never heard of him. I will have to go look into him!

Has anyone read The Woman in Black by Susan Hill ?

message 14: by Sena (new)

Sena (flavagirl) | 3 comments If anyone is looking for a completely twisted/disturbing book...try Jack Kilborn's Endurance. I just recently found this author and have completely fallen victim to loving EVERYTHING about him. If you're a fan of the movies: texas chainsaw massacre or wrong turn...then you'll love this book! Happy reading!!

Awe, its a crazy mutant book? I just read one of those but I've been dying to read a couple of Kilborn's

Brett (battlinjack) | 4 comments Not ..heard..of..Joe R Lansdale! Someone get the defibrillators! He is a multi-talented writer of everything from horror to western (with a twist) and a fantastic sense of humor.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill is one of the best ghost stories I have read (other than Ghost Story by Peter Straub). It gives me shivers and is so well written.

message 17: by Karen (new)

Karen (kazzakrisanna) Hauntings & Horrors: The Collected Ghost Stories of E F Benson - £1.40 for Kindle at Amazon UK is pretty good value & his Ghost stories are old and spooky, he's one of my favourites

Phil Wolf | 2 comments Mary wrote: "Has anyone read The Woman In Black A Ghost Story by Susan Hill?"

Is this the story that the movie came from?

I believe so. I DO know I want to read this myself and THEN see the film.

message 20: by MarytheBookLover (new)

MarytheBookLover | 60 comments Mod
Yes, it is. I much rather read the book first then see the film.

message 23: by Jeosa (last edited Jan 31, 2012 05:11PM) (new)

Jeosa (jeosac) Lord Loss (The Demonata, #1) by Darren Shan Slawter (The Demonata, #3) by Darren Shan Demon Thief (The Demonata, #2) by Darren Shan Demon Apocalypse (The Demonata, #6) by Darren Shan Wolf Island (The Demonata, #8) by Darren Shan Dark Calling (The Demonata, #9) by Darren Shan Hell's Heroes (The Demonata, #10) by Darren Shan

Darren Shan's Demonata, read and loved this series recently :)

But this is still the scariest book for me just because I read it when I was a kid. My first horror book:

The Shining by Stephen King

message 24: by Jeosa (last edited Jan 31, 2012 05:13PM) (new)

Jeosa (jeosac) Oh and The Book of Lost Things is a fun read albeit just a little twisted.

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

I actually like to see the film first and then read the book. The book is usually SO much better than the movie, that if I read the book first I'll hate the movie. But if I like the movie, I'll love the book :)
