Big NO!!! I started at good pace but it was kind of a drag.... he seems like a cold blooded *Ishiguru* I mean the three main characters had softness, tenderness, bitchiness(Ruth) and aloofness. That was a bit cold hearted to me. I didn't like the clinical aspect of the story as well. While reading i hated that fact how they were dealing with young children with no surname, with no purpose known to them. I found Kathy totally robotic, no emotions beside tear at the end and totally detached from others. All in all, It was very depressing for me. :( What do you say?
Yes, I would agree with lack of emotions around characters, somehow, you would want to show their playfulness of childhood more to make ur point but the writer had other thoughts. The whole narration seem a bit bleak overall.
I must add, I had seen movie beforehand and knew the plot, I felt that is the reason why I am unable to enjoy it much.

Hmm Thank God! I'm saved from watching it. hahaThe Message that *the sun will rise one day* and everything will change was very hard to understand in last two chapters.
I am talking about the message which i gathered beside all that sadness in this book. You will also find humanity in those teacher or mentors. What I gathered was no matter how babies bring into this cold world, test tubes or no test tubes as a human we will be emotionally involved with them and won't consider them object.
That's an interesting thought because from where I was, I could just see how horrible human can be. And that even though they tried, sometimes, there is no going back. (view spoiler)
My point is did you notice how their guardians looked after them, provided them everything in that isolation at Hailsham. Of course it was depressing, cold and harsh but I liked the way how Miss Emily calmed Tommy and how they let them fall in love with each other even when they got to know the purpose of their lives. It just softens the blow. Moreover, you remembered when Kathy used to sing that song Baby, Baby, Never let me Go and what she used to imagine was really heartbreaking and how madam reacted though Kathy found it later what madam thought. Oh and don’t forget the scientist who was carrying his work to create another generation of such children and the concerned bodies put an end to his research/work.CONCLUSION: All humans are not horrible.
LOL.. I have been told I am generally a pessimist Famma, no wonder my conclusion was "man is best in his worst" :P
