Thanks, Mari, my name has been thrown in!
Hi, just stumbled upon the group and wanted to introduce myself. I live just outside of Wake Forest, NC and have recently released my debut novel, A Lovely, Indecent Departure: A Novel, which tells the story of a young, immigrant mother who kidnaps her son from his American father and flees their rural North Carolina home for her native Italy. While it has some characteristics of a crime novel, I would classify it as a literary thriller.
Before writing a book, however, I read them, and still do, so I look forward to following the threads here and discovering more Goodreads in North Carolina!
Thanks,
Steve

I will go and check out your book; your description sounds interesting. Did you have a traditional publisher for your novel or did you publish it yourself?
Cheers,
Mari
Thanks Mari. I self published the book on my own back in March. Please let me know if you have any questions about the novel or the process to get it published. Both were very interesting undertakings.

My husband and I published my first novel, Parisian by Heart through CreateSpace but I have just finished Father We Go (see the first comment in this thread) and we will be looking for a trad publisher for it- but if we don't get anyone interested, we'll self-publish again.
I'll be looking forward to your Q&A.....cheers, mari
Hi Steve.Thank you so much for posting in the this group and telling us about your new novel. It sounds so good. Congrats to you on your success. I look forward to reading it.

Thanks Nancy. Great to hear from you. I hope you enjoy the story. As a freshman NC author and newest member of this group, I'd like to offer a free eBook copy of the book (downloaded from Smashwords) to any of the group's members who might be interested in reading and writing an honest review about it. Just send me a note—don't be shy or bashful—and I'll be happy to provide details.
Hi Mari, Steve, LaToya, et al. Please keep these updates coming. I love learning about NC writers and their books. I've just published a literay thriller called Bull City, set in Durham and the Appalachian Mountaints. The book is available through my web site, www.stuartalbright.com and can be viewed here: Bull City
Hello. I'm also a North Carolina author, living in Wilmington. Although having spent most of my life in and around Cincinnati, Ohio, my books have a Midwestern skew to them. I have two paperback mysteries out Caviar Dreams, which takes place in Cincinnati, and Tree Huggers, a North Carolina mystery. And I also have just published an ebook, Sportsman's Bet the first in a series of mystery books featuring a prickly British detective solving crimes in rural southeaster North Carolina.
If anyone would like a free download of Sportsman's Bet, let me know. And I love to read NC books myself.
By the way, I'd like to invite all of you to attend the Cape Fear Crime Festival, February 2, 2013 here in Wilmington. It's a writer's conference primarily for mystery authors (published and yet to be published) but we talk about subjects that relate to all genres. Check out our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/events/210750...

Greetings, Judy! Welcome to the group and congratulations on your books. I live in rural northeaster NC but am interested in the download of Sportsman's Bet, since you are offering. I have just finished a novel that takes place on the Carolina coast but it's not available yet, it's still being edited and proofed. Thanks for the invite to the Cape Fear Crime Festival, too.
Cheers!

Hey y'all~ yes it's a carolina thing! I'd like to introduce myself as well. My pen name is Liza Bayles, I'm from the small town of Cleveland/Clayton NC. I am a newbie to the writing scene and have published an ebook called Leaving Lila on Amazon, the Barnes and Noble edition should be out soon. I'm all for reading any constructive criticisms and reviews so if you check it out please let me know, I will most definitely be looking for the listed titles above, I'll read anything from murder mystery to historical romance if it has been written by Carolinian authors or based in the Carolinas .

Welcome to the NC group! And congratulations on your ebook; I will definitely go check it out. What is it about?
Mari
thanks Mari.
is basically about losing love, finding it again and the struggle to keep the relationship afloat all while dealing with a less than pleased ex~ It's now available on Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon~ please let me know what you think!!! I'm so excited and can use all the support I can get! So if you like it please help spread the word.
Greetings, y'all~Back when I started this thread to introduce myself, I mentioned that I was working on completing a novel called "Father We Go" which is set on the coast of North Carolina and is a work of historical fiction involving the early colonists, the so-called "Lost Colony", and a fort supposedly built by the colonists on Mackay Island, which is actually part of Knotts Island, where I live.
I said that I hoped to have this book finished in the next couple of months...well, it is finally finished and I have entered in Amazon's Breakthrough Novel Award for 2013. So I'm really just here to say "yay", I finished it and also, if I make it to the quarter-finals again (my first novel, Parisian by Heart made it to the quarter-finals in 2011), Amazon customers can go to Amazon to read excerpts and vote on their favorites. If I make it, I'm going to ask you all to go vote for me! Actually, I'm just going to ask you to go read my excerpt, you vote for whom you choose :)
Thanks to y'all for your support,
Mari
Congratulations on finishing your book! The Lost Colony is a fascinating topic. I look forward to reading it.

The Light Who Shines
by Lilo Abernathy
The story is placed in an alternate reality in contemporary times where three different breeds of humans exist: regular humans as you and I know them, magically Gifted humans, and Vampires (Dark and Light). The culture is strife with tension as these three breeds deal with a bloody history and lingering hate. The heroine is a paranormal inspector named Bluebell Kildare (a.k.a. Blue) who was born with the gift of being a sensitive. As the story moves forward, she begins to learn there is a little more to her power then she originally thought. The story starts out at the scene of the crime where a teenage boy was horrifically tortured and murdered. The plot follows the investigation of that crime and unfolds from alternating first person perspectives of the heroine (Bluebell Kildare) and hero (Blue’s boss, Jack Tanner). There are a few explicit sex scenes and some detailed descriptions of violence, but the story is not at all a horror or a psychological thriller. It is more of a detective/adventure book, with a lot of action and a good dollop of romance. There are some deeper aspects to this story as the characters begin to explore the nature of good and evil. I consider it equivalent to an R-rated movie.

Welcome, Lilo!
Your book sounds fascinating; how are you doing with it so far? Have you signed it up for a Goodreads giveaway? That's a great way to get it on lots of folks' reading lists. Good luck and best wishes with this!
Mari
Mari,I don't have it in print yet. Unfortunately giveaways aren't allowed for ebooks. I'll try to get it in print in February then will do that.
So far the reviews have been good. I did find 4 small typos in the final copy after editing, after I had loaded it. So I made the corrections and reloaded it on Amazon and lost 3 five star reviews. Now I only have 2 5 star reviews. But so far they are all 5 star so that is good.
Teeny tiny steps.

Hello everyone! My name is Ashley and I live in Kinston, NC. Yay for NC writers! I've had a short story published and just this year an erotic novel under the pen name Marie Krepps. The ebooks THE LIFE SHE DIDN'T TAKE and IRISH SQUEEZE are both available on Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com and through the publisher: Whiskey Creek Press TORRID.
I'm still pretty new to publishing and I would like to offer a free pdf copy of either story to anyone who would like to read and review them up here for me. Please just let me know!

I am a new member to this group and have read many of the threads and have just begun reading A Greater Journey, as I see that it is being read here.
I am currently working to complete my third book, tentatively titled "Father We Go", which is set on the coast of North Carolina and is a work of historical fiction involving the early colonists, the so-called "Lost Colony", and a fort supposedly built by the colonists on Mackay Island, which is actually part of Knotts Island. I hope to have this book finished in the next couple of months.
Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself and I look forward to discussing David McCullough's work as we read it.
