Anyone else upset that they didn't cast Alex Pettyfer as Jace? I know I am because he's exactly how I pictured Jace!

Same I just hope they don't mess up this movie...if they do I'm never going to forgive them

I remember getting so annoyed while watching I Am Number Four because Henry died at the wrong time and then I heard in My Sister's Keeper the wrong person died.
If they mess it up that bad I'm not going to watch another movie based off of a book!

I really hate it when they do that, like the books were there first... FOLLOW THEM!

There's a reason they decided to make the movie based on that book...oh that's right cause the book is amazing and everyone loved i!! So why would u change something that is so good?

I think lilly suits clary really well! cassandra said on her tumblr when she gets informed on the castings she will let us know straight away apparently their looking for simon now

I think they should pick the person who plays Sam from I Am Number Four to play Simon. I think his name is Callan McAuliffe but I'm not sure. Anyway I could so picture him as Simon!

Yer Cassandra Clare gave a list to the producers of the people she thinks would be good to play Simon, Dont know what came on it tho

they need to step their game up and work harder on this movie

I just wanted to say that I am so glad that Marlene is meeting with the director and the producers at Constantin. I know lots of rumours have been floating around and I tend to be really quiet, but I want to make sure that when I tell you something, it’s true to the best of my knowledge. The movie industry runs on rumors and innuendo (this is why IMDB is basically useless till a movie goes into production and they lock down the page) and while things can always change, I want to be passing along info that’s as final as things in Hollywood get.

I have a little bit of news that’s exciting — and not even the news I was talking about yesterday! — I will be flying to Los Angeles from Mexico to meet with the new director. I can’t tell you who he is yet, but I’ve talked to him on the phone and he’s had a lot of great insight into the characters, really smart thoughts about the filming, and he had great thoughts about Jace, talking about how he wasn’t just an action hero, he was a layered, complex character with a lot of depth (oh and he has met with Lily and Jamie and he loves them.) 
I’m excited he and the producers have made a special point to meet with me, go over concept sketches, talk about the characters and their direction — that doesn’t happen all that often with authors in Hollywood, that we get included that much. However I don’t want to jinx anything, so I’m going to be vague until things are definite. I will keep you updated as much as I can — I know it’s hard to wait; believe me, it’s hard for me, too. I’m actually really glad that we moved on from Screen Gems because things have been proceeding at enormous speed since then and I hope to have some concrete stuff to tell you soon. In the meantime I promise photos of my crazy trip to LA. :)

Well the problem is that Alex didn't want to cast for Jace that's why. I myself also thought Alex was perfect for Jace

still can't believe Jamie Campbell Bower got to be Jace, Alex looks like how I picture Jace in my head way more than Jamie.

Jamie looks really good dressed up as jace but

no jamie looks like a bit like a girl! i dont think anything there going to do to him is going to change that..

Agreed!! - remember the jace on city of bones? apparently he is three different people! so maybe this jace is not one person!

oh and a random thought! : does anyone else dislike the clary on the covers!!?? To me, she looks scary: Her eyes are freaky!

I had a great meeting last night with Robert (of Constantin — the people who own the movie rights to City of Bones) and Jessica (screenwriter, along with Marlene King) and the director, who had such incredibly detailed questions about the film that I found myself having to pull out my iPad and reread City of Bones because even I couldn’t remember what happened. So there, an actual piece of news. :) They’re hiring a casting director now to start on the rest of the cast, and Lily has what’s called “meaningful consultation” on the roles of Jace and Simon (meaning she gets to put in her two cents, which only seems fair since she has to kiss them both) — we know she already threw in for Jamie but I will say that she definitely likes someone for Simon that a lot of you all like. Who knows, maybe she can talk him into it. Girl with good taste, our Lily.

Personally im kind of freaking out about this movie, i mean Lily seems like she would be fine for Clary but Jamie as Jace is just... not right. If anyones seen sweeny todd he was in that, he just comes off as so feminine, and Jace is not feminine. At all.

There’s a bunch in here to digest, so have fun with it. The main thing that is confirmed truth here is that Sony/Screen Gems is distributing The Mortal Instruments movie, and the release date is set for August 23, 2013. I’ve seen people say “That’s so far off!” but as the article says “That gives new director Harald Zwart a little over a year and four months to cast, prep, shoot and edit “The Mortal Instruments.” It really isn’t that much time — at all!

“Expect casting notices for “The Mortal Instruments” to drop soon” is I imagine what everyone will instantly fixate on. :D As for the part about Jamie, last I heard he was attached and they were negotiating the details of his contract. That’s it, that’s all I know. You can ask me till you’re blue like a Smurf and I won’t know more. :)

And a little bit more for you on the movie. It’s quite a day for us! But it’s hard to underestimate how important a release date is for a film. The only bigger deal is actually starting shooting at which point … you really have a movie.

As I told MTV, Harald (our director, so we might as well all start thinking of him on a first name basis) is putting his production team together. They just hired Francois Seguin  as production designer. Francois is incredibly talented and awesome, just was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Borgias, and it is his job to make everything look amazing and beautiful. Francois, Harald and the production team are scouting for locations this week … so if you’re in Toronto and/or New York … you might see them searching for the Institute. :)

We have a casting director, too, Stephanie, and there’s a definite concentration on European and British actors for the Shadowhunters, which I like as it underlines the feeling that they are not quite like the culture that surrounds them. That doesn’t apply to Simon of course, so favorites floating around like a certain guy whose name starts with A and another guy whose name starts with L are not off the table. ;)*

*I’m really not supposed to talk about casting. They’ll make me live in a brick igloo. Since everyone is asking me about Playlist saying Jamie isn’t attached, they have been saying that for a while. I do not know why. It isn’t what I have heard, and that is honestly all I know.

Alright, everyone seems to not be a big fan of Jamie for Jace, but i honestly like him alot better than Alex. I think that Jamie will be able to express the layers of Jace and the cynical smartass covering up the boy with a fucked up past. I think Alex would have been one sided. But we will all see how it turns out when the movie comes out. I am soooooooo excited!!!! :D

Oh and i think Jamie is waaaaaaay better looking than Alex! I mean, did you see those eyes!?

I think she looks perfect but I've never seen her in a movie before (or maybe I have but I don't know) so I hope she does a good job as Izzy!

yeah i havent seen her in movies either but apparently she's in The Borgias and in maison close. I ave not seen these but i heard that thats how she got famous-ish. plus she is completely bilingual (frecnh and english)

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones begins filming on August 20, which is exactly one week from today!

The original date thrown around was August 15, but in the past couple of months August 20 has also been mentioned and there was some confusion as to exactly when filming would begin.

Exectuive producer Martin Moszkowicz confirmed that principal photography will begin next Monday, August 20.

So exciting! It feels real now!
