Astatine | 6 comments I'm just purchased the new Alastair Reynolds novel Blue Remembered Earth in my local bookshop, despite the publication date being apparently set for the 19th(?).
Is anyone else planning on reading this book/reading this book?

(p.s This is in the UK, I'm not sure when it's coming to the US)

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Doesn't come out in the US until summer. I ordered from Amazon.co.uk and just got a shipping notice, though god knows how long it'll take to cross the Atlantic.

That's annoying, but it shouldn't take too long.

Well, they're only two things. We have to wait for literally everything else.

Is anyone else in the US planning to do the same as Sean? I known because of the difference in release date it may not be the best S&L pick but maybe when it reaches the US?

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments I just checked the exchange rate to see how much I'm paying for the book, and it's actually a pretty good price even with international shipping:

Item Subtotal: £8.54 ($13.09)
Delivery and handling: £4.32 ($6.62)
Total: £12.86 ($19.71)

For comparison, the US hardcover is currently $17.43 and the Kindle edition is $12.99.

Curse you USA with your Breaking Bad series 3 and 4 privileges.

EDIT:
I can only see it when I'm signed out. Grrr!

Paul Perry (pezski) | 493 comments Isn't there a Heinlein story called Blue Remembered Earth?

(and, yes, I know the title is referencing AE Housman)'s A Shropshire Lad

Hey, me too. That is very odd. Wonder why?

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments If you copy the URL and try to go there while singed in, the page will show up, but with this message:

We're sorry. Due to publishing rights restrictions, we are not authorized to sell this item in the country where you live.

That happens when a title is only available for a certain region. I've had the same for Ready Player One. Could see when I was logged out, but when I was logged in the system knew that I was located in Europe and it was no longer available for me.

Just change your address to a random address in the US. It worked for me.
