I have read a bunch of his books over the years. My oldest daughter really enjoyed them when she was in K/1st grade, and I could always count on them to me clean and thought provoking for her. Then I read this recent one, We the Children, which is the beginning of a new series, and was REALLY disappointed. It completely lacked his typical humor and was just boring. I almost feel like I need to read book #2 just in case I missed something...

I know. I bought it for my son for Christmas without reading it first because I figured I couldn't go wrong. He's 7 and he didn't care much for it either...
I agree with Karis about the lack of Clement's usual humor in the Keepers of the School series. However, I still enjoyed the puzzle solving aspect of them and atmosphere of adventure. I recommend them all the time to kids who have been enjoying mystery and adventure series like Encyclopedia Brown or Geronimo Stilton and are looking for something a little harder.
