In 1994 one of Edvard Munch’s The Scream (1893) was stolen from Norway’s National Gallery in Oslo. The thieves left a note in the gallery reading, “Thanks for the poor security.” A ransom note for $1m (£650,000) was later sent to the gallery. Officials refused to pay, unsure the demand was genuine. The masterpiece was eventually recovered. In 1996 four men were convicted and sentenced in connection with the theft.

In 2004 one of Edvard Munch’s The Scream (1893) was stolen from Norway’s National Gallery in Oslo during a rare daylight armed robbery. Two men stole The Scream and Madonna before they headed to their getaway car.

Of the four versions of The Scream Edvard Munch painted two have been stolen and from the same museum. What do you think that says?

I never put that together...that they were from the same museum. I guess because I read about the two robberies at different times. Interesting. It wouldn't happen to be the same group of thieves would it?

VERY poor security to say the least! And personally, I wouldn't want any of Munch's The Scream in my house!
