Vincent Chough | 23 comments Brave Fish: Identity, Love, Faith

It's FREE on Kindle until June 27th, 2012

Here's an excerpt:

"LET´S get real here. An epiphany sounds wonderful, but the alternate explanations are endless. I made mistakes, some quite grave, and with the overwhelming guilt, something had to give. Religion is an easy way out. Sure, my sins are wiped away and the slate cleaned. What could be more convenient? Could it all just be an elaborate psychological conspiracy hatched over 20 centuries ago? What if I just changed my ways and apologized to those I hurt, wouldn´t that be enough? Why all the flowing robes and theatrics for heaven´s sake?

I weighed these possibilities and many more. I debated them and studied them. I doubted my conversion and put it through the test of fire, and this process continues to this very day as my faith takes shape between the hammer strike and anvil. They now even propose to offer a biological explanation for my faith. So be it. If I boil down to an equation scribbled on a blackboard then who wrote the equation? My ego, a midlife crisis, a psychiatric illness, a desperate need for attention… all of these and more are viable conclusions. But none of them give me complete closure. Nobody could ever explain love to me, yet if there is one thing of which I am certain, it is love.

Instead of pride or stubbornness, could it be a more pro-found ailment of every century? A sense of worthlessness infects me, a sense of not deserving love, something so strong that it blocks all reason and all rationality. I make every external attempt to prove my worthlessness and thus disprove God´s love. To deny God´s existence requires an infinite effort, a no-holds-barred, bare fisted brawl, but it is a fruitless attempt at holding back the wind or a torrential river, or even holding a single cup of spring water in my hands."

Vincent Chough | 23 comments Just returned from a Bible retreat/conference in Viña del Mar, Chile. We were with representative from Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.

We shared experiences and ideas about how to spread God's word. What a blessing the time was!
