Banned and Challenged Books discussion

I am about 40 pages into this and it is not what I had expected at all. Actually, I am not sure what I had expected...but there seems to be a lot of flogging, hanging, flogging, disembowling, and more flogging. I am planning to finish the book, and then go back and read the introduction which provides some history about the author and text.

I don't like that so many things are happening in the span of one page. I would like to see a little more depth to the story, though I suspect that there is a reason for his writing style.

While I rather enjoyed this book, I found it amusing rather than earth-shattering and seemingly a little forgettable as it hasn't really resonated.
