Kathryn I think that Jack Bauer is THE great fictional American hero of this generation. He never does anything out of selfish motives (except when he had a death wish and almost took on a suicide mission after his wife died). Right now, (as of the episode which aired 3-30-09), he stopped a chemical weapons leak with his own hands, got infected, is starting to exhibit some serious damage on his skin AND STILL he's going to get out there and try to save the day BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE KNOWS HOW TO DO IT!!

Ahem, sorry, where was I? Oh yes, Bauer is the greatest American (television) hero of this decade.:)

Thomas (thomasstrubinger) no Indiana Jones is the greatest American Hero.

Joyce | 3 comments It's a toss up, Mitch Rapp (Vince Flynn) and John Clark (Tom Clancy). There are others, but these two are the best. I hope they are based on real people even if we can never know who they really are, what they really do and who they are really doing it to.

Lee Perry | 3 comments Superman takes some beating, but isn't he Kryptonian?? He just crashed in America.....just be thankful it wasn't Scotland...he'd be flying around in a kilt!!

message 10: by Marty (new)

Marty | 1 comments Literary wise it's a toss up between Scott Harvath (Brad Thor), John Clarke, or Juan Cabrillo (Clive Cussler). For sheer comedy value, I'll throw in Colonel Liberty from Devin Kerins' booksDevin Kerins
