I just had my in person book group meeting today and Heidi (who has posted on here a couple of times) just won a book from Goodreads too!!Its possible :)
Congrats Brittany, maybe you should play the lottery! I'm just sayin'...lucks with you right now! :)
Hey Brittany. I just joined goodreads a couple of weeks ago. I entered one of the contests, and won a book, "Dog Run" from out of 447 entrants. I guess it was beginners luck!
Holli's right..I never win anything. Earlier this week I received an email declaring I was a Goodreads winner... it sounds like I won the same book Margaret also won. I think I'm going to give it to my hubby (who loves dogs) for Christmas.Very cool...
I've entered a good 75% of the giveaways since July and haven't won a thing. I'm still hopeful though! :)
Do any of you who have never won hang out on the Librarians' Discussion Board? In the case of the GoodReads giveaways, Otis or Jessica revealed that extra entries are given to GoodReaders who have written reviews of books, who are active on the Discussion Boards, or who give to GoodReads by moderating or something similar.
Why? Isn't that unfair?
Not really. GoodReads giveaways aren't intended to be simple freebies. Authors and publishers donate books (usually advance reader copies) in the expectation and hope that the readers will read the ARCs promptly and post reviews promptly... to generate favorable discussion before the book is released to the general public.
GoodReads cannot force winners to read/review, but getting reviewed/talked about is the idea that motivates authors to offer books and go to the expense of Priority mailing them to the winners.
There will always be winners who say "Thank you" (and some who don't even say that) and toss the book into their never ending TBR pile, so there is never a review, certainly not in time to buzz the book before its release.
So, if you want to improve your chances of winning, now you know the inside secrets.
Best wishes,
Rowena Cherry
I enter for just about every book on the giveaways list and have won 3 so far. I did not know about any secrets to it. I do try to read and post a review as soon as possible(usually within a week of receiveing it.)
I have not won on Good Reads but last weekend.. my husband won a beautiful swiss watch at my daughter's schools fundraiser.
Lucky for me it just happened to be a ladies watch!
That was Friday...
ON Saturday I won a trip for two to Havana Cuba, Flights and 3 nights accomodation!
I wish we had the lottery here!

Ditto on what Holli wrote! Maybe it will extend to other 'Chicks' and I should be a lottery ticket! haha
Wow Katie and Cyndi that is great. I did win a book here about a month ago but I am not so fast on reading them but I did and the author sent an email thanking me so that was cool.
I got a winning email this morning :) Woo!Won The Agency lastnight. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket, too?
I'm usually not all that lucky but I just won a copy of The Agency also and it looks great. It actually just came this afternoon. I read somewhere that if you do win and leave a review you're more likely to be picked in the future.I won a copy of Push Comes To Shove by Oasis about two weeks ago and that was one of the best urban-lit books I've ever read.
Where is the sign up for the contests now? Every since they changed the site I can't find it. arrggh
You have to go through the explore tab. After you click on explore then click on books and scroll down and then about halfway (?) down to the right you'll see 'giveaways' or something similiar and after you click on that it'll take you right to all of the ones in the U.S. HTH
I won one too!! A book called Broken Angel; what did you win Holli?? I'm so excited too, I never win anything either! :) So you're next Kristen!
I just went and entered to win all the books on the list. I'm still very new to this site and didn't know the giveaway existed. So thank you very much for mentioning it. Hopefully I win something because I just finished finals and have a month between semesters.
I won The School of Essential Ingredients...it looks good. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43...
I'm excited I won and you'll get one next Kristen....I can feel it. lol
Congrats Cindy, and Kate, and everyone else who has won!!
I just this week won a copy of
The Longest Trip Home: A Memoir.
This is the first time I've won. I'm excited.

I entered to win books right when I signed up for Goodreads, and won my first book (The Agency) a day or two after...which was awesome! I haven't won a book since, though I would love to....it was the coolest feeling to be able to read a book before the mass public, and be able to talk about it before any one else!
