Cindi (cindij) | 7 comments Has anyone here read the Rizzoli & Isles series by Tess Gerritsen AND watches the TV Series on TNT?
I am currently on book #5 Vanish and just love the way the characters are developing, however, after watching the TV series, there seem to be huge discrepencies in the character of Jane Rizzoli, from the books.. So confusing !

I am going to start the first book on the first of Feb. I love the show. I had no idea it was based on a book until it was mentioned in the show. I look forward to reading the series. I've noticed that with every series I read that goes to tv, like Bones, the characters in the books and tv show are very different.

I started it allright. I kinda sorta cheated and read it early. OH MY GOD!!! What a read. I couldn't put it down. Now I'm patiently waiting to discuss it. LOL :)

Kelly Furniss (kellyfurniss) Glad you enjoyed it Pasta. I know what you mean about not been able to put it down I am loving it and it's amazing when a book has that effect on you so you do not want it to end. I have nearly finished it, probably will this morning. The discussion will be good!.
I think I am going to have the read the whole series as I think I'll miss the characters now if I was to stop.
Anyone else reading it with us?

I have the first 8 of the series. I was tempted to read them back to back myself. I'm going to start The Apprentice, which is #2, on monday. Tomorrow I'm going to be watching the football game. But I wonder if I'll finish it in 3 days as well? The only aspect that I found odd/disconcerting in The Surgeon was all the killers thoughts. They didn't seem to make any sense. In the version I have they were only italicized and I often didn't know if it was random dialogue or where it was coming from. So it took me a while to figure that part out. And truthfully I could have done without all together. But I love the fact that Tess is a doctor so those "medical" type scenes were completely accurate. And I don't know if you've watched the tv show at all. But when you get to the end there is something that he does to Jane with a scalpel that one of the killers in the show has done as well. So I did like that tie in.

Cindi (cindij) | 7 comments I have just completed The Silent Girl: A Novel which is the last book that has been released in the Rizzoli Isles series ... Having read all 9 books Gerritsen has written in the series, I am now anxiously waiting the new release in September of "Last to Die" ( Goodreads doesn't have this book listed yet ) ... I loved The Surgeon and know what you mean about the killer's thoughts not making sense at first ... but all in all the whole series is A+ to me !! NOw I think I will go on to Reich's "Temperance Brennan" series ..

The Bones series is awesome. If you watch the tv show be prepared the characters in book versus tv are not alike at all. But don't let that deter you. They're great books. I've read all of them but the three newest ones. That reminds me I need to preorder the one not yet released.

I'm still trying to figure out the relationship between the killer and Capra. Were they more than just friends? They seemed to connect on a lot of seriously creepy levels.

Kelly Furniss (kellyfurniss) Okay I just finished ' The Surgeon' and have rated it at 5 stars I absolutely loved it and I'm waiting for
the next in the series now so until it comes I'm going to read'The Blackhouse'- Peter May. I can't believe I have only just discovered Gerritsen, and I'm happy in the knowledge I have many more hours of pleasurable reading to come with the rest!

I know exactly what you mean Furny. I just started The Apprentice. I'm only in the first chapter and I just nearly screamed, but I was not expecting what happened. Did not realize Tess was going to do that. No Jane's not dead...but wow. But this series I am very excited and thrilled to be reading. If it hadn't been turned into a tv show I probably would not have ever know. And that would be tragic.

Kelly Furniss (kellyfurniss) Going to start 'The Apprentice' tonight!.

Awesome Furny. I think I'm on chapter 5 right now. If the whole series is as good as what I've read so far of the first and second book this will be one of my favorite series.

Cindi (cindij) | 7 comments Pasta, the whole series IMO is GREAT ... the best since Sue Grafton's "Kinsey Milhone" series (maybe even better !) ... sadly, I have read all the books in both series ... am now working on Kathy Reich's "Temperance Brennan" series and am kind of struggling with all the French references in the first book... it is a much slower read than Gerritson or Reich ... but I think I am enjoying it .??.

The first Bones book is a challenge. I never took a french class so that's the hardest aspect of the books for me. I just kinda skip the french and then continue again when I get to English. I've read all but the last three of the series right now and it's an excellent series. Book 2 and forward are much less french. The majority of series does take place in the US. And I am a total nerd about my books that are parts of series. Every time there are three or four new ones added to the series I reread the whole series from the start again. I still haven't read "V" of the Kinsey yet but very soon. Now I'm reading so many great series's that I have to rotate a book from each series. Tho in March I'm going to try and reread the entire Women's Murder Club series. Have you read all of those? I haven't actually read 8, 9, or 10 yet. But they are such an exciting, fast paced read that I burn through them in just a few days.

Cindi (cindij) | 7 comments Yes Pasta, I have read all of the "Alphabet Mystery" books by Sue Grafton and I agree... all of them are fast paced and quick reads .. I would love to find another series (with lots of books in it like this one) that are so good ... I love Grafton !

I'm jealous. I won't start reading it till April. But I'm curious to see how you like it compared to the first two books of the series.

Jessica | 11 comments I watched the first season of the series and loved it! Then during the break I read all the books back to back with in a few months I was addicted! Then I watched the second season and found I much preferred the books! I have also read the a few of the Kathy Reichs Temperance Brennen series that is pretty good so far!
