message 1: by Michaela (new)

Michaela Wood I have found a great poet in John Keats - who I've never read before. I was very interested to find how short his life was - such a short career and what wonderful poems. He also never knew he became famous. I love these poems!

Meen (meendee) Wait, you mean Keats, the famous English Romantic Keats? How'd you never read any Keats? You went to school in the US, right?

Naika (nikkibfabulous) | 5 comments I've never read Keats either. I did go to school in the US. I am going to have to look him up. Thanks, Michaela!

Michaela Wood I studied Germans and Russian poets in my college intensive writing courses, we didn't have any Keats or Byron or Shelley. I know the names but I was never a big lover of poetry, so while I would read British authors, I never struck out onto poetry...you all are my English tutors (Tudors) now LOLOLOL

Don't get me started on the Tudors....!

LOL

Naika (nikkibfabulous) | 5 comments I just received a poem of Pablo Neruda. I really enjoyed it, so I looked him up. I think I've found a new love... :-)

message 7: by Michaela (new)

Michaela Wood I'd like to have poets not from America or Britain. Any suggestions in addition to Pablo Neruda?

message 8: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) You know, I just have a really hard time with translated poetry. It inevitably loses something. I read Joseph Brodsky (ALL of it! Jeezus, it was a chore. NEVER set out to read the "entire collected works" of anyone who wrote for 30 years.) and I enjoyed a lot of it, but it still felt incomplete. You speak German, right, Michaela? Have you tried many German poets?

message 9: by Michaela (new)

Michaela Wood I have a book of German verse, but I haven't cracked it in forever. I'm going to send you one in German Mindy!

message 10: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) Haha! My Oma will love it when I forward it on to her!

(They tried to teach us when we were little, but we weren't impressed.)

Giovanna (whenwearebothcats) | 21 comments Pablo Neruda is my favourite poet of all time. His words have the power to bring tears to my eyes. I have to restrain myself from sending out one of his poems every month.

message 12: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I don't mind to get a poemm of Neruda every month!
I would love to,he moves me,too.

message 13: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (tofumond) I am realizing that I don't have that much experience in reading poetry. I've always written poems, but rarely read famous poet's works.

So thanks for your recommendations - I'm gonna look 'em up in a second. (;
