Thanks for posting. It isn't getting great reviews. Another great little flick is The Artist. Loved that movie. Should I read the book first? Kim didn't love the book, and others did.
Doug...isn't The Artist silent? I would have to be prodded to watch that!!!If you are referring to the book ELAIClose....I see that Kim gave it 3 stars...my other sister gave it 4 and I gave it 5....I loved it....and my other sister didn't read it yet...hmmmmm...
Anyway...the book is very good if you like that kind of thing...it's visual...the narrator suffers from some form of autism and in turn the book has pictures and different font styles and such to kind of put you into his world. He(Oskar) is very quirky and he embarks on a heartbreaking journey. The movie does not go into the background of his grandparents, or the depth of his journey....but it is a wonderful enhancement of the book. I can't really speak to how the movie would come across if you didn't have the background of the book.
Note: unless you have emotions of stone....the movie is a tear-jerker to be sure!!

Not a movie, but a new HBO series is coming on soon: "Luck" starring Dustin Hoffman. Horse racing & him, it should be great!

One of the previews for the movie today (we saw Haywire and it was just OK) was Hunger Games. It looks fantastic. I predict the movie is as good or better than the book.
I thought that was pretty good as well, Shelli. The old senile dad is getting a lot of roles, isn't he?
Has anyone seen the american version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? I want to....I've only seen the Swedish version so far...
Shelli, I loved the American version a lot. Acting was great, a serious good movie. Changed the ending a little but it was fine.
I thought "The Debt" was very well done. A few days ago, I caught the film "Magic" from the late 70s, a horror film with Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margaret. Worth checking out.
Jo wrote: "Has any one seen the new Spider Man movie? I much prefered it to the Toby Maguire version. I love Andrew Garfield!"Yes, I have. I think if you forgive the pun, it got more under the skin of Spiderman, than the previous outings. It also seemed to do a better job of his transformation.
Oh good lord no!!! I'm proud to say I've seen none of them and nor do I want to! I'm also ashamed to say I did read the books and they did my head in enough so I'm avoiding the films like the plague!
I read the first book & decided neither her writing nor story was for me, so I haven't bothered with the movies. I did watch 'Abe Lincoln: Vampire Slayer' recently, though.
The last movie I saw in the theatre was "Jack Reacher" - it was quite good, and Werner Herzog was an absolutely chilling villain. It got my daughter started on the book series and she's finishing the last few now; she highly recommends them. One movie we saw at home was "Hitchcock", about the making of "Psycho". Helen Mirren was superb, Scarlett Johanssen did a very good Janet Leigh, but it was British actor James d'Arcy as Tony Perkins who stole the show in his brief appearance. It may help if you read about what a sensation "Psycho" was in its day.

It didn't have everything in it that the book did, but I felt it was very well done. The actors were fabulous....the young boy was amazing IMO.
While very moving...I didn't consider the book to be a tear-jerker....I think I laughed as often as I teared up. The movie is different in that way....I cried... a lot!
