Hi everyone,

I was wondering what influences you to choose a book to read. Is it the cover? A good blurb? Genre? Reviews? A friend's endorsement?

I have to admit, whether I am looking at books on an actual bookshelf or I am searching Amazon for a new book to read, the cover is the first thing I notice. I have chosen quite a few books by their cover and usually I like them. The next thing I look at, of course, is storyline. If I like the description - I think I will like the book. Genre and reviews are next. While reviews are a good indicator of a good book, (and I certainly love getting them!), I don't always go 100% on what a review says. Everyone has different tastes, so if someone doesn't like a particular book it doesn't mean I won't. When it comes to movies, I generally like all the ones that the critics hate - so much for reviews! So, what entices you to choose a book?

Dianna - Well, they do say the cover is very important in drawing in readers - a good tag line on the cover works well too. As for movies, I often wonder if critics ever enjoy movies that don't put you to sleep? :)

Ruth B (ruthb07) The first thing I look is the cover! and then the storyline... I never pay atention to reviews 'cause we all have different tastes so I try not to let me carry on for what people say!
As far for movies never never listen to critics every movie they hate I love it!

Hi Ruty - Isn't it funny? - Critics are supposed to tell us what movies we should like yet we all like movies they hate. I guess the movie-paying public has the last say. :)

Ruth B (ruthb07) OF course public or readers (in the case of books) are the one with the last word...
For example I never read or listen crititcs but once in a while I read the one who writes in the newspaper that comes to my house! just for know what to see in the cinema, because he always hates (I mean really hates) the movies that I love
