Um, I clicked that link (Message 1) and it took me to an online magazine about Godly living? I don't think that's where it's meant to go...no tauntaun sleeping bags there.

I think Elizabeth was spamming us there. She is no longer in the group.

Wow, people do that? I thought I had a lot of time on my hands...

Susan | 6406 comments We only buy for the kids for Christmas. I hate not giving gifts so I make a few. This year I am making the following:

-Lip gloss
-Bird feeder ornaments
-Cinnamon ornaments
-Scented bath salts

I may come up with more if time allows.

What is your lip gloss recipe, and do you package it in pretty pots?

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

My SIL always gives out large jars of short bread for Christmas. There is always a squabble about how many each person has eaten. She makes the best short bread.

evie (ecie) | 4450 comments One of my SIL used to make assorted confectionery until her twins were born. Rocky Road, White Christmas, Rum Balls, fudge, coconut ice.

My MIL always made shortbread, as did her own mother who was a Scot. Now Mr evie's sister and her daughter do the making.

Susan | 6406 comments I have two recipes for the lip gloss. The one I expect to be the better of the two is made with vaseline and vitamin E oil. You can add cocoa butter and coconut oil. I am omitting them. This mixture is heated to a liquid. Then you boil down fresh cranberries then strain. You add the the strained cranberry liquid to the vaseline base. You can add til you have your desired hue. I would like to do a peppermint version, too.

I was hoping to find cute little tins to put the gloss in. All I have found so far are little round plastic pots that are in different colors.

They may have to do.

Packaging is everything.

Chris (bibliophile85) An Oscar Wilde action figure with kung-fu grip? Forget buying this as a gift for someone, I want this!!!

I hope the matte varnish coat for the lid of the pots works as well as the clear varnish would have, if I could have found it.

Susan | 6406 comments For Jammies: Whatcha think? Stupid gifts or nice to get?

Also, the last is a pine cone gnome. Last minute add on.

Sorry the last is in bad focus. My camera and I are at odds, lately.

message 23: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Suz, they are all adorable!

message 24: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Yay! I'm glad you think so. Besides, it is much too late for making anything else. The cinnamon ornaments smell really good.

message 25: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Suz, I'd love a how-to for the cinnamon ornaments.

Susan | 6406 comments Cinnamon Ornaments

*medium bowl
*1-2 cups of ground cinnamon
*1/4 cup of applesauce
*Craft glue
*Rolling pin (I used a glass)
*One straw (I used a chopstick)
*Parchment paper
*cookie cutters
*Baking sheet
*Glitter
*Twine or ribbon for hanging

In bowl, mix together 1 cup of ground cinnamon and 1/4 cup applesauce.
Stir in 1/2 cup of craft glue. Stir until consistency is smooth and dry. I added a bit more cinnamon at this point. Let stand 1 hour. I maybe waited that long but I doubt it.
I sandwiched portions of the dough between parchment paper and then rolled out. Less mess, easier clean-up.
Roll to 1/4 inch thick. If dough becomes too dry, spritz with water. If it sticks, sprinkle with cinnamon.
Cut out shapes using cookie cutters or you can make templates and trace those.
Preheat oven to 200 degrees, transfer ornaments to baking sheet with parchment paper on it. Make holes with desired tool at this time. I used a chopstick.
Bake, flipping once (I did not flip, so they curled up a bit on the edges) until dry, about 2 hours.
Once cool and dry, embellish with glitter, beads, etc.
*I did some with embossing powder and put back in oven until powder was melted.

Susan | 6406 comments I totally love it when I see a thread name change and know why it has changed. I love it even more when I had something to do with it.

message 28: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Tritto on the name change love, and Suz, thank you for the recipe!

*is already planning to make these and maybe add some orange essential oil*

message 29: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Oh, good idea about the orange essential oil.

I have made oranges with full cloves stuck in them in patterns. You can hang them and they are suppose to repel spiders. They smell great, too.
