Do you get mad when a reviewer gives a book a bad review and one of their reasons is because they admit that there too old to read that kind of book?

I read a review today about what I'm currently reading which is The Dark Divine by Bree Despain and was upset because for 1. I haven't had a good book that kept me up so late in a while and 2. even though I know people can say whatever they want about these kinds of books but it burns me up when people don't go into it with an open mind! I mean really if you think your too old to enjoy something just don't read it! Nobody goes to Disney World and bad mouths it because they feel too mature to enjoy it do they?! Someone out there if you feel the way I feel please join in!

yes I do remeber the poster stating that they didn't like it because admittedly they were to old for it. Now this is not a age war because I'm 23 and constantly being told that I'm to old to be reading these kinds of books but I do and when I don't like one its not befause of age diferences its becuase of the way it was written and other bad qualities that would cause a book to be deemed bad.

I personally have not read the book in questions..however: I 100% agree with you. You are never too old to enjoy a great book. I believe people say that they were too old to enjoy the book because they do not want to admit that they, somewhere in the their life, lost most of their imagination.

The point of reading is to let you escape from your every day world. People enjoy all types of books because it lets you live in a fantasy world, it is a virtual vacation from the mundane cycle of life. But f you do not have the imagination to do so, then you will never really enjoy any types of books. It is sad when people lose their imagination and cannot enjoy a great well written gripping novel, but they should not say the book was not good because they have lost that valuable part of themselves.

Because obviously this book has moved you personally you have every right to be upset. Kudos to you for actually posting how you feel!

Sometimes people just dont like a book,it doesnt matter how old they are.

Did they specifically state that this was why they disliked the book?

I'm 32 years old and i adore reading. When i buy a book i expect to love it. The book may be YA or adult oriented, i dont care, as long as i like it. And that depends on the writing, the story and the characters. But having 32 years old means that i've read a lot of books, that doesn't mean that i'm old and that i've lost my imagination!:) That couldn't be more wrong! It means that my imagination is very healthy...
I dont know if someone is going to buy a book simply to trash it?! For me it makes more sense _ and i havent read that comment, but everyone is intituled to an opinion _ that that person felt kind of "cheated"...probably expecting to like the book, and unfortunetely finding it lacking. That has happened to me as well. You read a couple of comments on a book and it seems great, and then you read it, and you think, that's it?
And then you have to think that if everyone liked the same, life would be quite dull.

I believe everybody's got the right to voice their own opinion. If they don't like a book because they say it feels a little juvenile for them, that's their opinion and I don't think you should slam them just because they don't agree with you.

There's a book I really like, where this fellow-goodreader, whose reviews I follow, says she didn't like it much 'cause she thought it was too "anti-feminist". I didn't agree with her at all, but I'm not offended by her opinion of the book. I just got sad she couldn't enjoy it as much as I did.

It's the same with books that other readers feel are too young for them. So what? That's how they feel about the book. Why get mad?

I am 12 and I read this book when I was 9. My older sister recommended it to me. She was 17 at the time. I do think this more of a teen book.

I hate it when one of your favorite books are given a bad reveiw because "it is not for their age group" but really it doesn't matter if it is for your age group or not, there are people out in the world who may love the book and maybe it is for their age group. So if you are going to give a bad reveiw about a book that is meant for teens and you didnt like it because it was for younger people just remember that some people are the right age for that book. It is not like the people the right age for the book fell off the end of the earth!

I'm 28 years old and just finished the first book... and I am rushing to the next one. I loved it! I guess it is all about people's tastes and different reading preferences, but I dont really think age has anything to do with it. However, just because someone is 28 and thought they were too old for it, wouldnt make it true. I'm the proof against that theory. So, yeah, maybe they should leave out the "too old for this" aspect to their reviews.

I'm 23 going on 24 and I LOVE young adult books! That's what almost all my books are, my only adult books are authors Jude Deveraux and Agatha Christie....Lol. But yeah it just depends on the person, I have a 12 year old cousin who hates young adult books....and a 23 year old cousin who tolerates young adult books. SO I honestly think it's just the person, and if you THINK you're too old then you probably are going to just ruin the book for yourself.
