Glad to see people here. This is a public group, please feel free to invite your friends. The more the merrier!
LOL, Jo, we've got the wet and stormy part - not quite as wet as when you were here, though. I saw there was a typhoon headed in your general direction - is this what you're experiencing?
No, that's off the WA coast. But we've had some wild weather this last week from a big low that never quite became a cyclone, but tore up the beaches, knocked down trees and generally caused the same amount of mayhem!! Lovely otherwise - we hang out for the storms here :)
We've gotten snow dumped on us over the last 3 days. Being so far south in Alaska, we don't have the weather you might expect. Anyway, the plowed snow across the street is as high as the stop sign, if that gives you an idea of what we're dealing with. Everyone is plenty glad to see some driving rain and near 40 degree temps, I can assure you.
Must be those Siberian hamsters that Kat has - the weather over there is turning to suit them! Sounds like you're all getting very cold!! I hate to tell you that it's about 90F here... but with 90% humidity!
Hi, Smitha from Manipal. Its a tropical weather here all over the year. I've never seen snow (except in movies and TV) in my entire life.
Hi, Everybody! I'm here in Massachusetts, where we are certainly having an atypical winter. We've had little snow and warmish temps. Today it is about 40, which is "tropical" for this time of year!Elizabeth, we've been hearing much about snowbound Alaska. Did you get snowed in?
All the weather you've been hearing about is north of here. The real snows were in Cordova and Yakutat, 350-500 miles north of us. You might be hearing some more about the northwest interior, where they're having some unusually even for them colder weather. We heard last night on our weather program that one small village warmed up to 50 below during the day. We had some minus wind chills last week, and it was definitely colder than usual.
Hello! Sherin from Bangalore,India. I might say the weather is quite pleasant here this time of the year. Not too cold or not too hot.
Hi I'm Sue, also from Massachusetts (hi Barb). It's supposed to be into the 50s tomorrow, er today. Not normal for February 1st but I'll take it.
Nice to meet all of you from so many different places.
Hi Everyone, I'm Mikki and live in NYC where yesterday we had temperatures in the low 60's. Like Sue said, Not normal but I'll take it!
I never introduced myself. I'm Anne from Colorado. It's in the 30s and sunny and that's really great weather for me.

Hi Kat. And a good quote, Rose. Very apt for people like us.
Hi KK! Welcome! Another non-US player, which means this game will continue to get played around the clock! I love it!

Thanks so much Kat, I'm having a lot of fun!
If any of you are suffering cold, snow, ice, etc., I am amazed (and almost ashamed) to report our thermometer hit 51 today.
Hi Dee-Ann from darwin, Austrralia here. Have been away from my computer for a month, which is why it has taken me a while to join up.
Well, Sue, you have to remember we're a big state. I'm sure a large part of Alaska was colder than Boston, just not here, down at the southernmost tip of the panhandle.
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Well, Sue, you have to remember we're a big state. I'm sure a large part of Alaska was colder than Boston, just not here, down at the southernmost tip of the panhandle."We're having such odd weather. It was 50 today and then it's supposed to be very cold by the weekend.
Weather absolutely fascinates me. I know nothing about it, but we check the Weather Channel daily (at least), and I have a home weather station that records all kinds of data and saves it to my computer.
When I was a kid, my parents used to call me "Donna Kent" after the long-time Boston meteorologist Don Kent. I was always telling what the weather was going to be and watching storm forecasts. Still do.
Barbara wrote: "How about Dick Alpert??"He came along long after Don. He came when I was an adult and didn't get the nickname anymore.
We have a state produced weather show titled, imaginately "Alaska Weather". A half-hour program, but the middle 15 minutes or so are short documentaries on things like recognizing avalanche conditions, boating safety, aviation safety. The program always starts with any watches/warnings in the winter, spring break-up, or fire danger maps, followed by a couple of minutes of radar analysis, before the statewide weather map forecasts for 2 days, various pass condition forecasts, wind forecasts, and more. It's sort of an amazing broadcast with all the detail for general public forecasts, plus marine and aviation forecasts.
Each of our major local stations has a weather department so there is up to date forecasting on every news show. New England weather changes a lot so we like our forecasts.
I think the regular news programing also does weather forecasts. I don't know because we don't watch Anchorage programs - it's 700 miles away.
