Its a great way to read your books and do things around the house and other stuff while curbing ur crave for the books we love so much! I just love it!
Hi everyone, some familiar faces here from Book Lovers Hideaway. For those of you who don't already know me, I am Jennifer from the Chicago Suburbs. I am a huge reader and adore audio books. Nikki and I have been sharing suggestions for about a year now and I am looking forward to sharing with everyone else as well.
I also found your link over at Booklover's. I've been listening to audiobooks for 3 or 4 years now. I read a lot of genres, but mostly YA, classics and historical fiction.

Hi, I'm Gavin I've been listening to audiobooks for the last four or five years. I'm from a small town in Scotland. I like most genres but prefer fantasy, thrillers and romance.
Hi all - my name is Jen. I had to go back and look at my Audible account to figure out how long I've been on there ... 10 years! And I was buying books on tape before that, so ... big audiobook fan for a long time! My favorite genre is paranormal romance, but I read fantasy, urban fantasy, sci-fi, and YA. I have a long commute to and from work, so I listen in the car as well as at home and work. I'm looking forward to the discussions here!
Welcome Gavin and Jen!! I'm so glad you have joined us. Please pull out your audiobooks and join in :D
Hi I'm Michael,I have a long commute to work everyday so I pass the time by listening to audiobooks. I read fantasy, Sci-fi,YA ,urban, and dystopian. At least those are the ones I seem to gravitate to. Hoping to make some like minded new friends.
Glad you're joining us Michael. I do the majority of my audiobook listening on my work commute as well.
Hola everyone,I'm Cherale and a babe in the woods where the audio stuff is concerned. But trying to get more actively into it. So far listened/read-
. Changeling was my first audio book since I was a little kid. And I was even surprised I had actually clicked on it instead of the paper back version. But by far I have to say of the 3, I really enjoyed Whispers at Midnight. Was like a southern soap opera on the radio to me.
So glad you have joined us here Cherale. We have such fun discussions on our other group, Book Lover's Hideaway. I know you're not shy & you will join in on the discussions quickly :)
Most def. Trying to pop around and be socialable. :) And definitely picking up on some good narrators that I can check out.
Hi guys!! Another Book Lover's Hideaway memmber. Audio books is somewhat new to me, started listening late last year and still going strong. I mainly listen at work. I love Mysteries/Suspense, but have been known to stray to other genres. Audio books are secondary to me, I really love holding a good book, but do enjoy audio for rereads or checking out new authors. Happy to be here with you guys and looking forward to discussing books with you.
Glad to see you here Linda!!! Come join in on any of the discussions. Hope you find some good recommendations for audio here or maybe you can suggest some. Jump right in!!
hi, i am new to this site and obviously this group. I have been listening to audio books for years and i am currently working on "must read list" which i have read 28/200.
Thanks for joining us Alison. We love to have new members join in. The "must read list" sounds interesting. You should tell us about it. :)
Hi, I'm new to this site (and new to Goodreads). I've been listening to audiobooks for about 8 years. At first it was awfully frustrating to listen with a cassette player or CD. About 5 years ago I bought myself an mp3 player and I've been a happy audiobook addict ever since.
I think my most favorite lately was Death is a Lonely Business by Ray Bradbury. I just finished The Innocent by David Baldacci read by Ron McLarty who is one of my favorite narrators.
Hello!! I am Christine from SE North Carolina on the coast living amongst all the tourists these days.
I work for the Cancer Center of a teaching hospital an hour away and my audio books help w the commute.
I have been visiting used book stores and found some good ones but I signed up for Audible last night and am very excited!! :)
Hi. My name is Poonam. I'm from the Philadelphia soon to be D.C. areas. I'm new to good reads and to audiobooks. I'm not a huge audiobook person as of yet, but I'm going to be commuting and audiobooks seem to make exercising less of a bore. So I'm excited to delve into them a little more.
Hello, My name is Michael and I live in WA state. I used to look down on Audiobooks because it seemed to me like reading for lazy people. However, I started a job last year that didn't leave me much time to read so I started listening to Audiobooks while I worked and now I'm hooked and have been "reading" more books than I ever have before.
Hi, I'm Hannah. I recently started listening to books about a year or so ago when I changed jobs. Life just got too busy and stressing to focus on reading a book so I listen when I'm at work I'm more of a fantasy reader but tend to explore more genres via audiobooks. Kindof funny but some books I don't think I could get through if I had to read them. Some genres are difficult for me to listen to because the content needs more attention than I can give it or the book is just inappropriate at the office. This is my first online group and first bookclub. I'm looking forward to experience.
Hi, I'm Robin and I live in Wisconsin. I have been listening to audio books for close to 20 years! I won't leave the house without something to listen to. It's definitely not because I dislike reading, as I regularly read over 50 print books a year in addition to listening. It's a way to get around the "so many books, so little time" problem by using my drive time, exercise time, and housework time to take in books. I like classics, mysteries, fantasy, romance, and fiction in general. Some books I think are actually better on audio than in print, especially if there's a local accent involved.
Hi, I'm Denise and I love reading and listening to audiobooks. I have a 2 hour daily commute and listen all day at work, so I go through audiobooks really fast. I'll give all genres a try, but my favorite authors are Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child when they write together. I'm a weekly visitor to my local libraries where I get all my books and audiobooks.
Hello. I've been a regular audio book reader since 1997 -- fifteen years. I started off with cassette types in my car while commuting, but I've progressed to digital audio with Audible on my iPod since 2004.
My commuting time has recently dropped from two or three hours per day to under fifty minutes, so I might not get through as many books as I used to in the past few years.
As for what I enjoy, here is a break down. (And I'm a database geek so I can get numbers like this very easy.)
Fiction, Literature: 204
Non-Fiction: 148
Fantasy, Science Fiction: 100
Crime, Mystery, Suspense: 72
Horror: 16
Poetry: 4
Religion, Spiritual: 2
Western: 1
Children's, Young Adult: 1

I've been away for a couple of days and Wow!! Welcome to all of our new members. I am so excited that you have found our group. Please join in on any discussions...we are so glad to have you here. :D
Hi! I love audiobooks and would love great recommendations. I am a mom that spends a lot of time moving kids around. Audiobooks save me. I listen to popular fiction, and YA. I am an educational assistant for special needs children.
Hi everyone! I've only recently started listening to audiobooks (within the past 6 months or so), and I am hooked. I commute about 70 minutes total each day, and tend to run for another 60 minutes 4-5x/week. Thus, it really helps. I even checked my speed with running - music vs. audiobook - no difference, as long as it's a good book!My favorite audiobook so far has been Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth - the narration by John Lee is superb. I have a couple others by him that are waiting in the wings.
I'm a school principal, so listening to a book on the way home helps me to decompress after the day - love it! :) I look forward to joining in on the read for August! :)
Hi everyone! I almost always have an audiobook I'm listening to (along with reading something in print - although the audiobooks tend to go faster!). I knit a lot and love to listen to a good story while I'm working on a project. I listen to different genres and tend to get my books through audible. I find a good narrator makes all the difference!
so many new people. welcome everyone. I look forward to some great conversations with all of you. :D
I love audiobooks!! unless the narrator isn't very good. I used to have a longer commute and was able to listen to a lot more books. Now I work 5 minutes from home but still get to listen at work pretty often. I am excited to be a part of this group. My top two favorite authors are Louis L'amour and David Baldacci.
HI! I started listening to audiobooks a couple of months ago and have found it addicting. I do a lot of needlework and find listening to books to be a perfect way to keep my mind occupied while I work The first book I read was
. I have really really enjoyed The Iron Druid Chronicles that begin with
. Luke Daniels is the narrator and he is perfect for these books. I'm looking forward to hearing about books and narrators you are all enjoying!Nan
Hi everyone! I started listening to audiobooks in 2008, when my work commute went from 8 minutes to about 25 after getting a new job.
It was actually my husband -- boyfriend at the time -- who got me hooked on them. He borrowed a book from a family member for a long car trip that we took together and it was awesome. I love to read but had never listened to a book before. Now we always try to get a book for any trip that is four or more hours each way.
I also try to keep a few in the car when my work commute is longer than 30 minutes or so, so whether or not I'm listening to audiobooks regularly at any given time depends on my job. Of the last five jobs that I've had, only two required me to be in the car very long. I recently started a new job and my commute averages between 30 and 45 minutes each way. Having a solid hour of reading time during the work week definitely softens the blow of a long commute!
Glad you have joined us Jah!! That is when I do the majority of my audiobook listening...on my work commute. I have about a 25 minute drive, one way, so I get about 1 hour of listening in a day.
Hi everyone :) I listened to my first audiobook when they were still "books on tape" but stopped for a long while. In the past few years, I've been listening to a lot of short fiction in podcast form and have rediscovered my love for oral storytelling. I just found this group and am looking forward to learning about others favorite stories and narrators :)
I got tired one program or another reading text as I read along (cause of my dyslexia. So started talking to a few friends about it and they told me that audio books were a hell of a lot better than when I was in High School. A few months later on of my favorite podcast was supposed by Audible.com so I gave it a try. My first books I liked reading were choose your own adventures. Then in 1995 I started reading The Vampire Chronicles series cause a good friend gave the first 5 books in the series as a Christmas gift.
But my first audio book was Lord Loss (The Demonata, #1) by Darren Shan
Now over 430 books later and also avg. about 17 books a here I am to date.
Hi! I'm thinking of producing an audio version of my new novel, since I have many friends that love stories but don't necessarily love to read. My question is: one voice or many? Do your members prefer books where the narrator reads the characters passages, or where the voices of each character are "acted out" by another individual? Or is that distracting?
