I'm a librarian in Nashville TN and I host an experimental literature book club at the N-ville Public Library.

We'll be meeting to discuss Samuel Delany's Dhalgren on January 15th at the Main Library. So if anyone in this group is in the middle tennessee area come on down.

Wow. That one definitely counts as experimental. I'm not anywhere near Nashville, but I applaud your efforts.

Were I not in New York, I'd be there! I loved Dhalgren, though I felt a need to talk about it an discuss it, and no one around me had read it (or would even pretend to want to!)

See, that's the POINT of a book club. My "book club" was turned off by my forcing them to read "The Wind Up Bird Chronicle," and so the book we're reading now is "A Long Way Down" by Nick Hornby. Sigh. What's the opposite of "experimental literature"? Oh right -- BORING.

Dhalgren wasn't as experimental, at least in regard to its prose, as I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed it a lot and it definitley needs discussing.

My non-expiramental book club is going to read Wind-Up Bird Chronicle soon, I'm anxious to hear members reactions. I must say though, my regular book club usually chooses very interesting and meaningful reads.

Great idea Bryan! Anyone interested in doing something similar in the Los Angeles area (silverlake/echo park). Maybe we could virtually chime in to the Nashville club?

love your blog (tried to respond to infinite jes entry, but don't think it registered) and your experimental book club idea (went looking on internet for just such - wondering if there were any out here) - Do you get droves of anxious experimentalists showing up at the library for your meetings? (I can't envision more than 3 or 4 in one place at a given moment in time)
