Woohoo! This is just the push I need to read this :) I'm guessing I can start somewhere around 10-15 Feb. (I have 3 other buddy reads before that...)
Is anyone planning to read this early in the month? I'm trying to figure out when to fit it into my own schedule....
I'm hoping to get to this next week. (I've got two library books I have to finish first.)If anyone has started, what do you think?
I like it so far! I just started it and I'm already half way through it. It goes quick. I don't want to ruin anything but there is this one part that is really funny but totally embarrassing at the same time.
Oh, I'm late to the party. I am also close to halfway through it. And it is a fun read that goes by quite quickly. I like Reece and Kara a lot so far.
Yz the Whyz wrote: "I'm planning to read this one, too. When are you guys starting?"I think we're doing this one kind of "free form", so folks can read whenever it fits into their schedules. Brett and Lady Jaye have already started (maybe even finished by now?). I'm probably going to start it either today or mid week. I'm not sure what I'll be in the mood for when I finish Third Grave Dead Ahead.
I finished it last night. I won't post anything because lots of people haven't read it yet, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. The ending has to be the cheesiest i've read this year :D
I ended up starting it last night, but I'm only about 40 pages in. Even though a lot of folks haven't started it yet, I feel safe talking about the first chapter. OMG! When she's talking to her friend about oral sex (and tipsy from her margaritas) and he walks up and asks what they're talking about and she turns around and tells him!! And then starts grilling him about men's attitudes toward sex! Part of me was giggling like crazy and another part of me was mortified for her. It was too funny. If the rest of the book has this attitude, I think I will like it.Although, I'm with her on being ticked at her friend for ditching her with him the way she did. I know she felt like she was doing her a favor and helping her hook up. Granted, he's a senator and there are tons of witnesses to see them leave together, so it's not like he's going to turn out to be a serial killer who's going to haul her off and hide the body somewhere, but still. She just left her friend there alone, having to rely on this guy to get her home. But I did like that he realized right away that Kara wasn't in on the plan, and was as much a victim of Holly's machinations as he was. Otherwise that would have been a whole bone of contention between them to start off on the wrong foot. I hate it when that happens. And I really liked what a gentleman he turned out to be. Bonus points for him!
Christine,There is an even more embarrassing part than Kara getting drunk! It made me laugh, but I also thought this must be so embarrassing for her. haha
Brett, are you talking about (view spoiler) cos that was funny to me, but I can imagine how embarrassing it was for Kara!
Lady Jaye wrote: "Brett, are you talking about Mr. Jiggle Stick? cos that was funny to me, but I can imagine how embarassing it was for Kara!"Yes I am! hahaha!
I'm almost done with the book. I'll finish it tonight.
I just read the jiggle stick scene. Thank goodness my kids were distracted and didn't ask me "what's so funny?". And purple, no less! I'm having so much fun at this poor woman's expense.
Lol, Christine! I don't know how she manages to go on the date after that without dying of mortification!
I just hope the story she's investigating is as interesting and exciting as her interactions with Reece.
This book kept me up until after midnight! Every time I thought 'just one more chapter' something would happen that made me want to keep reading. I'm impressed that she took two of the most maligned professions in America, and managed to make such likeable, sympathetic characters out of them. What's next, an insurance salesman and a telemarketer?
I finished it last night and I liked it. I agree, the ending was kind of cheesy and also Kara got on my nerves a little bit through out the story but that happens to me for like every book I read. haha I'll totally read the next book in the series
I finished the book. How fun was that?! Yeah, there were some cheesy moments, and some things were just a little too convenient, but I was having so much fun, I didn't care. I loved the humor (a purple vibrator?) and there was just enough intrigue, mystery, and adventure to keep it interesting. I'm really curious to read the next one and see how the series works with a different couple. The ending may have been cheesy, but I will confess that the mother in me was misty-eyed on that last page.
Also, the mother in me had only one real issue with the book. Early on, Kara is worried about not spending enough time with Connor and there is mention of the looks and comments she gets from the day care worker because Connor is usually the last one picked up. And the lady even makes some snide comments about Kara's ability, or lack thereof, to go on the field trip. I work full time and have three kids. In the past eight years, we've made use of at least four different day cares/preschools/after school programs. And not once have I ever gotten a judgmental look or comment from a day care provider. All the one's I've come in contact with fully appreciate that my husband and I have to put in our forty hours at work each week. If not, they wouldn't have a job. Maybe we've been lucky, but I can't help but wonder why Kara didn't find a different, less judgmental day care. And why did we feel the need to go there anyway? The single mother feeling guilty about working a job that is the only way she has to support herself and her child. She brought that issue up early on, but was it ever really resolved?
That was a very fun read! I agree that the end was pretty cheesy, but really sweet. The two embaressing scenes are exceptionally funny. We've all said things we wish we hadn't when we were drunk, but WOW ... I was also really off put by the day care worker and her comment that she wasn't sure that Kara would remember to come to the field trip. Are you kidding me? It actually didn't work for me that Kara would be willing to take that kind of crap from Connor's teacher. It upped the pressure on Kara, but I don't think it fit with her personality to just accept that kind of abuse from someone who basically works for her.
All in all, a good read. Thanks to Christine for putting this together!
