The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett is a good and challenging book to read.. that I recommend to you...
While I've heard good things about Follett an I'm really looking forward to reading Pillars of the Earth I'm not sure it qualifes in this category - His first novel "Eye of the Needle" came out in 1978. I think Sarah Pinborough qualifies here. She started writing in 2004. She has 5 books out so far. She writes horror novels for dorchestor publishing. I think her writing is amazing and she writes books of perfect length. The're not long enough to get boring and they don't end too fast. I highly recomend her books!

I'd recommend Lalita Tademy. She's only written two books that I know of, and both are great!Cane River 2001

You might like Secret of the Sands by Rai Aren.Good thrillers by 'new' writers include Min's Monster by Lila Pinord, Sudden Death by Michael Balkind, and Soul Identity by Dennis Batchelder.

I recommend INTERRED WITH THEIR BONES by J. L. Carrell.I read it last December and really liked it. It is her first book and was published in 2007.
