Do you think Alaska killed herself or was it an accident?

I think that she was really messed up and that everything happened in the moment. Whether or not I call that killing yourself, I don't know.

Honestly, I don't even think John Green knows. Or if he does, he won't voice it for certain. I think he's leaving it as a mystery for everyone, including himself. It's interesting to ponder all the different aspects of her decision, or lack of it.
It's not my favorite at all, but it's not awful. I think the main characters are gay, personally. We had to read it for school, though. Go ahead and try it, it's not a tough read, really.

IKR? I HAVE SOOO MANY UNREAD BOOKS IN MY ROOM.BTW I GOT A NICE COPY OF MONSTERS OF MEN THIS WEEKEND!!! I'M PROBABLY GOING TO START THAT TONIGHT!!!
Same.. everytime I go I say I'll only take out only one or two but I usually end up with like 7 or 8!
I have to buy my books...it's a really expensive thing, but I can't, like, return library books easily.
*Comes in late to the conversation" I always viewed it as Alaska continued driving on purpose, but their was no conscious decision to do it.
I believe she wanted to kill herself, but she doesn't seem like the kind to do the killing for herself, (she was letting the cigarettes do that for her) So, I'm not sure she comited suicide.
She probably froze up in her misery and fear as she was going toward the cop car and just...let it happen.
Albiet, I'm probably wrong, and I can say it's a true mystery... :) Green's got us again. :P
Until I read this thread it never even crossed my mind that Alaska killed herself. I always thought of it as a drunk driving accident. Alaska, to me, didn't seem like (even though she really wanted to) she would ever actually kill herself. Net herself are key words here, she wanted to have something else do the dirty work no doubt about that. So no, I guess I am saying that Alaska did not kill herself, but she did willing put herself into a position that could easily kill her; that was on purpose.
I think she did do it on purpose. However, she was incredibly intoxicated and was too upset to think straight. I think that if she was sober and it wasn't late and she wasn't feeling guilty about kissing Pudge but being in love with her boyfriend, the outcome would be different.
I think that when she went out that night she was not intending to kill herself or to die. When she saw the cop car her mind kind of just ran thought past events she let it happen. So I think that you could call that suicide but also you can't call it suicide because she did not try to kill herself but she did not try to stop her death. So it will always be a mystery.
I don't think she really intended to complete suicide, but with everything that had happened in the past 24 hours, she just because increasingly angrier and more upset. Through her tears and flashback thoughts, she sped up and didn't register the cop car lights (since she was intoxicated). So I agree with other people above me. I can't ignore the "straight and fast" quote about exiting the labyrinth. I think that played into it as well, so that driving straight and fast would give her the exit out of her labyrinth of suffering (the last 24 hours of her life)
