Around the World in Books discussion

I will look and see if I can get this in time. In the meantime I am reading the czar's madman. So I am at least in the right country!

Borrowed Purge today from the library. Only a couple of pages into it but already looks interesting.

Several chapters into this book. Well written; flows nicely. Definitely worth looking at the Wikipedia entry to help understand the social dynamics playing out between the characters in this book. The years on the chapter headings matter because they are politically significant.

I liked this book too. One of the better ones we've read in the club.

Just finished reading Purge while close by in Finland (was kind of neat to read a book while in that area) and gives you a lot to think about. I too liked the links and parallels in the plot lines. The way the author ends the book by using "letters" I thought was very interesting.

A quick little update on the Czaf's madman. I liked the book. It was very interesting to read a novel with such a European feel to it. It was set in post-Napoleonic Russia (now where Estonia is).

Very interesting theme of what constitutes madness.

I won't be able to get the Purge anytime soon. :( but at least I got to the same country - jsut a different era.

definitely need to read this.

Disturbing. For anyone who hasn't finished and is considering NOT reading the final chapters with the "Top Secret" label--those chapters reveal a great deal. I considered not reading them because the style is dry.

Finally got hold of a copy of Purge. Haven't seen such positive reviews for a book from our group for a long time - so will make haste in getting round to reading it!
