If you read ahead of the group and want to discuss book 6, please do so here.
*Warning spoilers ahead*

Plot Summary:
He is an expert with the latest technology . . . a madman with the mind of a genius and the heart of a killer. He quietly stalks his prey. Then he haunts the police with cryptic riddles about the crimes he is about to commit - always solved moments too late to save the victims' lives.

Police lieutenant Eve Dallas found the first victim butchered in his own home. The second lost his life in a vacant luxury apartment. The two men had little in common. Both suffered unspeakable torture before their deaths. And both had ties to an ugly secret of ten years past - a secret shared by none other than Eve's new husband, Roarke.

Thanks for doing this, Jessica. So anybody finished with this one? I loved the story line of it.

Courtney (ccousins) This has been my favorite book in the series so far. I loved that we got to learn a bit about Roake's background, and even some more of Summerset. When I'm reading, I forget that Roarke is supposed to be Irish, so in my head he sounds American, like Eve does, but in the scenes in Ireland, I had no trouble imagining his old friends speaking with an accent :)

I LOVED this book. It's probably my favorite so far. I don't know about you ladies but I think I'm more interested in Roarke and Summerset's background than Eve's. Probably because they remember their's.

Courtney (ccousins) Personally, I want to learn more about them since we don't get a lot of narrative from them. It's always from Eve, so I feel like I know enough about her. It's everyone else I want to learn about. Even Peadbody and McNabb.

I loved the good fight that Eve and Roarke had in this one. I think he babies her too much, she comes off as being cold toward him sometimes and business-like. I was glad to see him stand up and dish it right back to her!

Exactly, Patricia!

Desiree (mabrug) | 19 comments Just finished this. I loved it and I think its my favorite so far. I was also glad to see Roarke stand up for himself. Wasn't sure if I liked Summerset, but this book helped a lot. I still think hes a snooty-booty, but a sweet one under all those layers. :)

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments I loved this book! I love how we find out about Roarke and Summerset's past but that doesn't change my liking for Summerset! I still think he should remember he is a butler!

The relationship between Eve and Roarke just gets better in each book, even with the growing pains they experience in this book; relationship squabbles, a near-death experience for Eve, and some pretty intense scenes where Roarke is put in the middle of Eve's and Summerset's dislike for each other).

In this book we find out Why Summerset hates Eve, 1. she's a Cop; because the cops didn't do anything at all when Summerset's daughter was killed. 2. she isn't the cream of society she is from the wrong side of the tracks, and she's NOT Marlana. Yes that part brought tears to my eyes but the man is still rude! WHY does Roarke let Summerset talk to his "WIFE" like he does? What's the deal with that???

I liked the McNab but missed Fenney and Mavis! I also liked the new found understanding between Nadine and Eve! I think Eve is becoming more trusting!

Didn't I tell you Tamme? It was a great book! I'm glad you gave in and decided to read it now instead of waiting for it to come up in your challenge list :)

I think the Summerset/Eve "conflict" is really just a game to both of them for the most part. If they suddenly were nice to each other it would be boring and add nothing to the stories. Plus they both seem to like pushing each other's buttons.

Also, Roarke knows that Summerset would protect Eve because she means so much to him and that's good enough. They have been through so much that Roarke lets him slide but if it came down to it Summerset knows Eve comes first.

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments Yes, yes you did Jessica! I am so glad I didn't wait! I did not want to put this book down! I read it to 50% in one setting and then read the rest the next night!

You make a very good point with the Summerset/Eve conflict. Hopefully after this book things will be a bit better! Time will tell.

I have decided to read a challenge book, then an In Death book, because I love this series!

Sounds like a good compromise. I'm sort of ignoring my challenges right now and I'll see how they sort themselves out this summer. If I'm way off track I'll focus on them more then. Plus that means I get to read more of these books now :)

Tamme Webster Johnson | 56 comments Oh, maybe you convinced me to do the same! :) I like to be side tracked and this series is way more interesting!
