A dark comedy is a story in which a normally sad, terrifying, or potentially offensive subject is treated with humor.

Has anyone read any recent dark comedies? What are your favorite dark comedy movies?

Rose Ramon (rramon) | 13 comments My favorite dark comedy movie is Shaun of the Dead, which is darkily comical in itself because I'm super afraid of zombies and cannot stand them at all!!!!

La Toyia Williams-Griffin | 1 comments I haven't read any dark comedies recently but there is an old movie that comes to mind that may be considered dark comedy and that is Edward Scissorhands. I think it's a good movie to dig up and watch every once in a while.

Kayla | 5 comments I agree with anything by Tim Burton as a dark comedy. It really surprised me when Disney took The Nightmare Before Christmas, because it really doesn't fit with what they are. Disney is definitely not known for the "dark comedy." As for books, Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere would be my idea of a dark comedy. He seems to enjoy walking that line between horror with comedy. The bad guys in Neverwhere seem to be the comic relief in a story where the main character is out of his depth.
