I wasn't sure where to post this question, so hope it is okay to post it here.I need recommendations for a good young adult book to read the for the Monthly Cable Channel challenge (task #1).
I will read just about anything. I absolutely love series reading, so if there is a ya series anyone knows of that would be perfect.
Thanks for the help.

I read a lot of YA so here's some series that I like:
The Divergent series by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, Die for Me series by Amy Plum, The Body Finder series by Kimberly Derting, the Shade series by Jeri Smith-Ready.
I would say of Amy's list hold off on Die for Me until next month. Pretty sure it is going to be the BOM. Some of my fave YA series are:
,
,
,
,
Good stand alones:
,
And if you want something not fantasy/sci-fi/fairy tale:
Thank you, Dawn. I need some of these really bad, like the "u" ones. This will give me a good place to start.
Those darn U's and Y's. I could use a female main character whose name starts with U or Y, if anyone has suggestions. Perferably something in the romance genre, or at least that has a happy ever after.

Completely random topic. You may have noticed Lizz has changed her profile picture. SO first I have to ask to Lizz is this one of your fur-babies? It's a cute doggy.
However, my odd story to tell. I have this horid habit of getting up and going straight to the computer, before putting on my glasses. Pictures are a little fuzzy but I can read the words just fine. So at first I thought Lizz's cute puppy was a male torso on the left side of the photo. Later after looking with my glasses on, it seems a bit akward pose. So I finally went and looked at the profile to see the picture bigger. I feel completely silly now, knowing it is a dog. But still knowing it is a dog every now and then I see the torso, and I have to do a double take, glasses and all.
I hope your not upset I thought your dog was a man.
Yeah it is one of my fur-babies(I have three). His name is Sam and he is a heeler mix. I just looked at his pic and don't worry it does kind of look like a torso.
I am going to try and get a Christmas photo of all three

I've been trying to convince the boyfriend that we should get a dog, but so far no luck, haha. So I guess I'm just stuck with my fat cat :P

I want a lab, my husband keeps coming up with reasons we should wait to get a dog. My son is 3 I think it is the perfect age to have that classic movie sceen where the package under the tree is shaking and out pops a puppy to lick him in the face.
My family also had a black lab when I was very young. We ended up giving him away 5-6 years later because everyone in my family was either at work or school during the day to take care of him.
Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate. And Happy Tuesday to the rest of you. May your day be as joyful as mine has been.
I need help finding an old challenge. I don't remember what group it was in but I know it was within the last year. It was a challenge where you had to dress your "paperdoll" by finding clothing articles on the cover. Anyone else do this one? Can someone tell me what group it was in?

I love puppies but I will put my two cents in and say they are a lot of work with the puppy training. Oh but to see your kids with dog that loves em...priceless!!
Sorry I can't help with the paperdoll challenge but sounds fun!!

I remember seeing it, Dawn, but I don't remember where it was. I *can tell you, though, that it was NOT in the CCC, if that helps :)
We didn't get the puppy... I am now pushing for spring time. I want to try to re-create or make a version of the paper doll challenge, but I want to give credit for the insperation. And get permission.

Also, I'm curious is the movie ok for 11 yo daughter to see or too much adult stuff? Mine wants to see it with me and after we watched Pitch Perfect I'm slightly nervous about PG13 movies. Another mon had said PP would be ok and stuff would go right over my kids heads. Yea...not so much.

The same thing happened to Eragon and Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief movies where they changed so much around, but I still enjoyed watching those movies. They're currently in the process of making second Percy Jackson book, The Sea of Monsters into a movie regardless that The Lightning Thief didn't do too well.

It is not that they changed a lot about the book but some of the acting. To me they tried to hard to play a southern person. But I think Jeremy Irons was a great Macon Ravenwood. Him and Emma Thompson to me made the movie.

This movie has been getting different sided reviews. Either people liked it or they don't. I'm kinda debating on reading the first Mortal Instruments book, City of Bones before the movie releases in August of this year and if I'll be able to read The Host by Stephanie Meyer before that movie releases too. The only actress I recognize in City of Bones is Lily Collins who plays Clary because I know she is Phil Collins daughter and she played Snow White in the Mirror Mirror movie that I still would like to see.
If I had to, I prefer to watch a movie BEFORE reading the book. Movies never capture details. Movies are a big picture production that gloss over things. So it gives you an outline (basic foundation) of the plot. When you go and read the book, the details are filled in and the characters now have a face. For instance, when I watched Twilight, Bella has said "no fair Jasper with the mood thing", the comment seemed innocuous o me. But when I read the book, it talked about Jasper being able to control people's moods and he used it to calm Bella's anxiety. I was like "ohhhhh, that is what was going on".
I already read City of Bones and The Host, but I won't read Beautiful Creature until I see the movie first.
Another book that I read that kept me from enjoying the movie was Dan Browns Da Vinci Code & Angels and Demons. Tom Hanks was not properly cast as Robert L. So that was a big distraction
I'm with you on seeing the movie before reading Ez. If I read the book first then I am invariably disappointed with the movie and keep thinking to myself - "that wasn't in the book" or "why did they leave X out?"I think I enjoyed reading Twilight more because I saw the film first - couldn't get into the other books.
That said. I've already read City of Bones but will still go and see the movie. Who know, maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

I'm going to wait to read it til I've seen the movie.
I'm glad Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson are good - I really like both of them as actors. Sometimes I think if you have a movie with actors that can't keep the accent up can be distracting. Always wondered if it would be better if they just didn't try for the accent or maybe the director needs to pick actors that have the accent they want ~ just a thought.
I agree with the see the movie part first too. I watched the first few Harry Potter movies before reading the books. I LOVED the first few movies. Reading the books just seemed to be like reading "extra" scenes. You got to know more of the inside emotions and whys. But then after I read the books the last few movies I was more inclined to think, well that isn't the way it should be!
I was one of those crazy Twilight fans so I had the book memorized before seeing the movie. Of course the first movie did not live up to the expectations I had set. But it did get better in the later movies. Not many movies every match the book exactly.
I think Breaking Dawn part 1 was the only movie from book that I would have not changed a thing about. Every other move from book has something wrong. It is just a fact of transfering a book to movie. What is appealing in written word doesn't always translate to the screen.
However, I loved City of Bones and the Host and am superexcited to see them. I don't know that I would be excited if I had not read the books. The trailers just don't seem to capture it all for me.
I can see the wisdom in watching the movie first, but despite that, I still love reading the books first. I will wait to see a movie until I have read it first.
Ok, so random group chat question open to all. How many books do you read at the same time?
In another group someone mentioned only reading one at a time and that just seems wierd to me. I usually have at least 3 going at once. One paper, one e book on my kindle and one audio. I listen to the audio while doing house work or in the car, the e-book for reading in the dark at bed time and a paper back to carry along where I may go.
I read about 2 or more books at time. If I need a break from reading one I have another to pick from.

I listen to a book and read a book. Sometimes at work I can read a PDF on my computer but usually just 2 book
I have anywhere from 2-4 books going at any one time. I read ibooks on my phone when I have few minutes here and there. I usually have at least 1 sometimes 2 paperback(s) going and 1 ebook either on my laptop or iPad.
I usually have a long book I'm reading a little bit at a time, and then I have 2 others going. But they have to be different genres. I can't read paper books very well anymore because of vision problems, but my nook is also an android tablet and I have the kindle app on it. So I'm usually reading one book on my nook and one on the kindle. I've never been able to listen to audiobooks - I've tried several times. I wish I could.

I always have at least one print book, one audiobook and one e-book going at the same time. Right now, I'm in the middle of two e-books, one on the Kindle and one on the Nook.
If I'm reading a non-fiction (print) book, I usually have a (print) fiction book going too, but that doesn't happen often.
