SDMB - Straight Dope discussion

It's been a while since I came to the site because the bugs in trying to carry out stuff (weird stuff like 'add books' or 'post reply') was driving me bonkers.

Very pleasant surprise to see the overhaul.

I'm also struck that I need to rethink my star giving. Tighten that process up, way to many five-starred books.

Me too, with the 5 stars. But really, if there's nothing to nitpick about a book, why not 5 stars?

My ratings were way too high when I first entered my books, but I have gone through and adjusted them, trying to make my 5-star ratings more significant. But I still probably skew too high. I have a lot of 4-star books, and I don't have a lot of 1-stars because if I dislike the book that much then I usually won't finish it, and then I hate to rate a book I didn't actually read.

(I agree wholeheartedly about your justifications on reviews by the way, just need to rethink some of them through the passing of time, 'does it still stand up' that kind of thing.)
