I read Pride& Prejudice and liked it... It seems like this is sort of making fun of it in a way (i dont know much about it) If you're a fan of pride & prejudice would u enjoy this? please share wut you think.

A lot of it was word-for-word from the original, but there was the occasional zombie scene thrown in there. It was a bit silly, but kind of fun.

haha cool thanks

Katie It's probably more something that fans of zombie stories are going to like than fans of Pride and Prejudice are going to like, but there is certainly no reason that those can't cross-over.

Personally, I wasn't too big on it, but I like Austen a lot more than I like zombies. My husband, who likes zombies more than Austen (although he does enjoy Jane Austen sometimes), loved it.

Holden Attradies I think of it has to do with whether you like zombies or not. If you like zombies than this is a pretty cool read, if your un-interested in zombies than this would probably just annoy you.

As far as what it adds to the plot and it's accomplishment writing wise I found it pretty cool. Yes, most of the text is unchanged from the original but they have added extra stuff. Although this may seem unimpressive I think it's pretty amazing that the writer was able to take a book and pretty seamlessly change the entire setting while keeping main plot in place.

Again, all of the technically impress stuff really doesn't matter if your not that into zombies.

Joanna Mikalis If you have a sense of humor and can handle some tongue-in-cheek moments, you will like this. The author takes numerous and blatant liberties, but all in the name of fun.

If you don't like other P&P fan fiction, then you really won't like this one.

Renee I didn't like this book at all! It was no fun for zombie lovers or pride & prejudice fans. Just not enough of either.

Library Nymph I'm a fan of P&P, and I thought this book was really funny.

Sheila It kind of seemed to me that the author just took Pride and Prejudice, pretty much word-for-word (as Wendy said), and tacked on words like "zombie", "undead", and occasional references to martial arts here and there. It didn't really feel like a story unto itself as much as a joke that ran on a little too long. Gotta say - not a big fan.

Lisa Westerfield Yes, if they are 'P & P' fans with a sense of humor - if not you probably should read 'Persuasion' again. I think he got the cadence just right, however other books of this genre (classic + zombie, vampires, and sea monsters) weren't nearly as fun!

message 11: by Licha (new) - rated it 1 star

Licha I didn't care for this book. I thought the idea was original, but was disappointed once I started reading it. I wish I could just copy a classic almost word for word, change it up a bit and make some money that way. I felt like it was cheating. And the over-use of the double-entendre ball(s) word got on my nerves. If jane Auten was alive could she sue?

Daphne Birchfield I actually liked this! I'm a big fan of zombie novels. I have never read the original.

Dalila (Dee) I love Jane Austen, I'm a fan of horror, both in book and movie form and I also love comedy and satires like Terry Pratchett's discworld novels so I thought this book would be a great combination of all those elements but it just felt like a teenager had decided to poke fun at a classic. It's funny for the first few pages but after a while it gets dull and repetitive. I got about halfway through and gave up.

Don't waste your time with this book. It's a Pride & Prejudice rip-off. It copies the original story and tosses in a few zombies. You're better off re-reading P & P.

Hermina Oláh Vass Actually this is the second book of a trilogy. In itself it's not much (although it's not a waste of time). Even if it's somewhat familiar and there's not much change in the original plot the prequel and the sequel adds a great deal to the story, mostly character-wise. But I would also recommend it to those with a healthy dose of sense of humor.

It's the second book chronologically, but it was the first published and it seems like the prequel sort of assumes the reader has some idea what's going on already (i.e. likely has read
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies).

Rich Meyer I think with most of the horror mash-ups, you have to normally enjoy both horror books and the particular genre they're mashed up with ... I'm not the biggest Austen fan, but I'm a fan of classic English literature and can appreciate some of the little details and near-Easter eggs the writer put into the mash-ups.

The best one by far is Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, which I think would appeal to a wider group than the Austen pastiches might.

message 18: by Kara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kara It's for people who think zombies are kind of cool and liked Pride & Prejudice but not pedantically. If you think of Pride & Prejudice as something sacred, if your love for it borders on religious fervor, this isn't for you. But then, I don't think someone who felt that way would even pick it up.

I thought it was cute and funny. I wouldn't reread it, but it was enjoyable the one time. I do, however, see what Sheila's saying about a joke that ran a little long.

And yes, of course you're better off reading Pride & Prejudice. Come on, Pride & Prejudice and Zombies isn't trying to replace the original or be better than it.

Suburbanrockdoll I did not like it. I haven't finished the last half because I couldn't take it anymore. The zombie scenes were not well written.

Michael Brown I was expecting flesh-munching silliness (which would have been OK to read at the bus-stop, let's face it), but in the end it was the relative subtlety (so to speak) and the adhesion to the original story that appealed to me most. You can't really call it a rip-off - the title, for God's sake, gee I wonder what that's based on! Anyway, it tickled me enough to get me to invest in "Dawn of the Dreadfuls" and "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters", and I can't help sniffing the air with intrigue when I contemplate "Android Karenina". One honest point though - I had a lovely friend at University who was very keen indeed on Jane Austen, and there's a chance she would probably think this was total in-your-face sacrilege, or pointless meddling at the very least. So would this appeal to fans of "Pride and Prejudice" or Austen fans generally? - Depends what they'd been drinking, I reckon.

Gretchen I really enjoyed this book and I am not a zombie fan. One of the things I most enjoyed about this book was the skill with which the zombie scenes mimicked Jane Austen's writing.

Carolyn I approached as just something fun to read. I found the zombie twist pretty funny (but then, I am a bit warped) and it actually prompted me to revisit the original.

Catwin I thought it was awful and boring. A genius marketing ploy that made someone or some people very rich but a snoozer of a read.

message 24: by João (new) - rated it 1 star

João Pedro Best thing about this book is the mock-period illustrations. Other than that, it's P&P word for word with a couple of different sentences. If you read P&P, it's absolutely not worth it.

There is a graphic novel version, which I think is slightly better, but I don't particularly enjoy the artwork in that one.

Scott I have a lot of respect for Jane Austen and the original work and still enjoy this more, for what that's worth.

Balquis Dalila wrote: "I love Jane Austen, I'm a fan of horror, both in book and movie form and I also love comedy and satires like Terry Pratchett's discworld novels so I thought this book would be a great combination o..."

I totally agree. I love Austen and zombies pretty much equally but this book was awful.

Grigory Ryzhakov Being a writer myself I enjoyed the way the zombie story was organically incorporated into the orginal both stylistically and character-wise. Great humour too.

message 28: by Tami (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tami Hillman If you have read the original and you like zombie books...

Kristine I read the first chapter and had to put it down. I thought it was horrible and cheapened Jane Austen's writing.

Grigory Ryzhakov Kristine, I think Jane Austen would have enjoyed it, she had great sense of humor as one can judge from her writing.
In any case, P&P&zombies came out they also boosted the P&P sales. Win win situation.

message 31: by Nana (new) - rated it 1 star

Nana It' pure crap. A waste of time. Or a money maker for the one who wrote it.

Julie I would say probably not. I think the bulk of the writing had been made easier to swallow, so maybe as a gateway to P&P. but the zombies added absolutely nothing to the story and only really served to cheapen a classic book.

Stéphanie i think that the more classical readers wouldn't like it. but if you have a bigger ruinge of interest it would be a nice try. you do need quite an imagination i gues..

Stéphanie it is a funny book..but in the same time very strange, and weird. especially with the ninja stuff XD

message 35: by Leya (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leya I loved it, and I am a huge fan of Jane Austen's work! I think the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies appreciated her work as well, but wasn't above mixing in a little humor by giving her writing an alternate universe. I think it's even better when you read the book club questions at the end. Some of them are silly, but a few are thought-provoking.

Sandra I really liked it, I haven't read Pride and Prejudice but now I kind of want to so that I can compare the 2. I think it was good the Zombie parts made me laugh, so I think you should read it.

Hayley Linfield Anne wrote: "I read Pride& Prejudice and liked it... It seems like this is sort of making fun of it in a way (i dont know much about it) If you're a fan of pride & prejudice would u enjoy this? please share wut..."

I read it and kind of liked it, but not for the same reasons I liked Pride and Prejudice. I thought it would be a bit more - I don't know - original. It just seemed like kind of a cheap way to sell books.

Ruthmgon Pride and Prejudice fans will not really enjoy this unless they like zombies too. For me this book is more of a conversation starter. I love the books that have spun off of this story and this one has certainly the most hilarious of the covers.

The zombie author takes full liberty with the classic text and just splices in the zombie sections. There is some real effort to make the scenes seamless, but anyone who knows this book will know immediately when it veers off the main trail, even if there are no brains being eaten.

For example, Charlotte's marriage to Collins is not a surprise in this novel, because of how the zombie author inserts the zombie text. That was one of the things I liked about the original.

Cherie I just finished the book. When I started it, I did not especially like it, but kept reading and found myself hooked. After the fact, I think it was funny. I did not really read it for the Zombies, but just to see what they did with them. I thought their being trained in China by Shaolin priests was too funny. I could keep the original story in mind as I read along and laugh at the zombisms that were added. I also read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer and thought it was a better story - but totally different.
