Finish the sentance...
He forced himself to continue reading the book in his lap, the words blurred together and he growled in frustration.(I'm hoping Avery is a dude? Or were you aiming for a girl? I can change it to she if you want.)
It wasn't usually so dark in the moonlight but since moon didn't seem to reach his window he turned the light on.
It was a mess, as usual. He couldn't sleep, so he grabbed his leather jacket and set out into the night.
Being a light sleeper, Avery's father woke up at the sound of noise coming from the kitchen door, but saw nobody. "Hmm," he said aloud to himself, "Must be hearing things."
"I never really know if I do or not." She replied putting her hands back in her jacket pockets to warm them.
Pulling him in to the alley, she then stood on her tiptoes and kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Trust me," she whispered.
They came to a door--a big, black door, at the end of the alley. "This is it," Tara told him."This is it?" Avery asked.
"Yes," she said laughing. She let him kiss the top of her head and they walked in together.
Tara merely stared between the two before her fighter instinct kicked in and she smacked the gun out of Avery's uncle's hands.

Avery's uncle, James, put his hands up in surrender and nodded his head towards Tara..."You'd better explain to Avery who I am."

"I think it's best if we both explain," James said reluctantly, "Avery, listen closely. What we are about to tell you is a secret that has been guarded for years on end."
Avery was starting to lose his patience. "What the hell is going on, Tara?!" he exclaimed suddenly, surprising both James as Tara.
"There is a species as old as time, that our race has thought to be extinct for a few hundred years. They're back now," Tara began, waiting for James to elaborate.

"...if these beasts begin to run riot around town" Tara continued "well we don't exactly know what will happen but it's too much of a risk to find out. Hence the gun."

Suddenly everything fell into place. Why he had felt so distanced from his uncle. Why Tara always disappeared.

His uncle shook his head. "Don't be stupid Avery" he said with a condisending tone "Vampires don't exist".

"So what your trying to tell me is you and my girlfriend have teamed up to become superheroes and save the world?" Avery asked.
"Oh my...what the hell?!" Avery yelled, beyond confused. "It's okay, Avery, it's normal to be confused. It's a lot to take in," Tara said soothingly.

His uncle looked so serious, he looked to Tara and her face held expression. Avery couldn't help it, he burst out laughing. For some reason he found this whole situation hilarious.

Avery looked at her in disbelief, Tara glanced at him sheepishly. "sorry you deserved it" she told him.
The part of his cheek that had been slapped was red, and absently, Avery put a finger to it. "It's okay, just tell me what's going on. I feel like there's still a lot I dont know--if we're fighting werewolves, who are we?"

"The protectors? this is starting to sound like some really bad science fiction movie," Avery said, still not able to believe that werewolves were rampaging their town.

"What do you mean she's not human? I know she has those freaky claw things, but so do we, Uncle James," Avery said slowly.
"Oh my gosh," Avery said, his head reeling with the new information. "Claws, werewolves, protectors...add witches to the list?" he asked, his voice raising, "This is ridiculous!"
Avery's breathing slowed, and he stared levelheadedly at the two people in front of him. "So now what?" he asked them.

This could work to my advantage he thought. "So you could give me whatever I wanted now your a witch?" Tara raised an eyebrow. Avery realised what he had just said sounded like. "I don't mean in that way" he stammered.

The bright full moon shing in the black sky reflected it's superior beauty onto the deep blue lake outside Avery's bedroom window. The lake was almost completely masked by the cover of trees stood beside it.
