What I do is, email it to myself, so I have a copy on my email, which you can access in any library etc.
I get Carbonite. When my old computer died, it worked perfectly and it's worth (to me) fifty bucks/year to have one less worry.

I have backups on an external hard-drive & CDs and thumb drives - but what if there's a fire? So I have thumb drives I keep in a fire-proof mini-safe. Archiving it off-site is the next step...might look into Carbonite as well...
