My story I have submited for the Valentines Day competition.
Little white flakes, falling around me; the forest was white with the first snow of winter. I drew my deep green cloak around me waiting for him to come. A twig snapped in the distance, I whipped my head around, only to feel the cool sting from a blade against my neck. I felt him behind me.
“It is really difficult coming up with ways to trick you all the time.” A familiar voice said into my ear. “How did I do it this time?” he asked.
I turned around looking at him, faces inches apart, “You threw a rock to snap the twig, when I turned around, you snuck up behind me and got me.” I breathed into his ear, “It is really difficult solving your little tricks all the time.”
He sweeps a stray piece of my ginger hair out of my face and backs away and begins to circle me carelessly flipping his knife. “Now that I have caught you, what to do?” he asked smirking, for we play a game where if you get the other person, they are captured and have to do your bidding for the day. He walked toward me, “Let’s play tag.”
I smirked, lunging toward him, I tapped his arm and ran, yelling, “You’re it!” over my shoulder. I ran, in and out of trees, leaping over fallen stumps. A figure appeared in front of me and tapped my side before running. I hear a voice from somewhere within the forest shouting, “You’re it.” I smile, panting slightly. I slowly creep through the forest listening for some sound. I hear breathing, his breathing. I hold my breath and slowly creep towards it; I hear it coming from behind the tree in front of me.
Taking a silent breath, I walked forward and put my back against the tree. I wait until the breathing slows down and then creep around the tree. I see his arm and tap it, “You’re it.” I say before dashing off.
I hear him cursing me, but I don’t care. Once I am a good distance away, I stop and lean against a tree to catch my breath. My hands against the tree looking at the ground, I hear something behind me. I turn around to see him there, swiftly, I dash away, leaping over a log; I catch my dress on a branch. Laying, sprawled on the white, cold ground she sat up and began to fumble with the hem of her gown that matched her cloak. I saw a dark figure leap out from behind the log, just as I freed the dress. I wheeled backwards and he fell on top of me. I lay there looking up at his face, brown curls astray, face red from all the running. I panted, chest rising and falling. “Got you, Jenna.” he said putting his hands on either side of my head panting.
“It seems you have Nathaniel.” I replied.
“I have something to tell you.” Nathaniel said.
“Go on then.” I said to frozen to move him.
He pushed himself and then put a hand out to me, which I took. He pulled me up and I felt his strong arms wrap around me inside my cloak. He slowly took steps forward causing me to step backward, not taking his eyes off me. He was smiling, blue eyes bright, as if he was plotting something great. His body pressed against mine, I felt a tree behind me. I looked up, scared, but he continued to smile. With no escaping, I sat there frozen, green eyes looking into his glistening blue ones.
“I want to tell you something.” he said, his face only inches from mine.
“What?” I asked, heart pounding.
He gave a crooked smile at me, showing some of his white teeth, then, leaned in and kissed her on the neck, “I love you.” he breathed into my ear.
My heart pounded so hard, I knew he could hear it. The touch of his kiss burned into my pale skin.
“Well?” he asked pulling away slightly.
“Well what?” I asked, too shocked to say anything different.
“Do you love me back?” he asked looking a bit offended.
“I always have.” I said smiling up at him before kissing him on the mouth. His lips on mine felt magical, electric, wonderful, right.

I think love story's are hard to write because it is nearly impossible to keep then from being too cheesy or too mushy.
