Steve | 5 comments Compared to some of the other poets in this section, Douglas is a minor figure. He died young at Normandy. I love the WW 1 poets, but have not read enough of the WW 2 poets (and they get less attention, though their experience, while different, is every bit as shattering). Anyway, I blundered across this guy at a used book store. Apparently Ted Hughes discovered his work, and made him project to resurrect his work for a new generation. Here's a link that has a brief bio and some poems:

Interestingly, for such an obscure poet, there are cool readings on Youtube. Here's one devastating poem, "Vergissmeinnicht," worth checking out:

Another poem, "Aristocrats," is also worth checking out, though I'm not sure what I think of the accompanying animation. But the reading is fine stuff, and it includes the text of the poem as well:

[Note: I just now noticed that the section says poetry between 1900 - 1940. I was confused, since the group description says up to 1945. Feel free to delete, or I can delete it, just let me know.]

No problem at all - we recently extended the period of interest so that we could include anything up to 1945 (the end of WWII) so this fits perfectly!
