Top Ten Books
Interesting, I guess the hunger games haven't been around long enough to make this list? I would have thought they would be on here.

No problem, it's okay you fixed it :)
I am perfectly happy with this list. ow long did it take you to count?? How did you do it? I can't even imagine..
Magic.I had this great plan to use the alphabetize button on Word, but it didn't really turn out as expected, so it took a while. I got there eventually.
I agree. She's one of my favorite authors. Unfortunately many people do not realize the excellence and wonder that is her books.
I don't think many people realize they exist... It's really too bad. It took so long for her to become this famous, the Song of the Lioness came out in 1976 I think. Maybe more publicity would do the trick. Ah well. It's really their loss.
I agree with many of the books on this list and I've read 5 of them and absolutely loved themAnd by the way, Vampire Academy is by Richelle not Rachel Mead :)
I've read almost all the series/books mentioned. And I can't believe Harry Potter got first place. Wish the Hunger Games did. But, eh can't help how the cards fall, if ya know what I mean lol.

Frank wrote: "All of the top 10 are deserving I guess. I am glad Harry Potter and LotR got in there."Ok I definately agree with ya when you say you're happy LotR is there. HP on the other hand...I kinda disagree with. But that's b/c I hate it with a passion. No offense intended, but to me the story is kinda old. Like used too many times. The wizard thing that is.
Nomadiac wrote: "Twilight got as many votes as LOTR? What has this world come to...-.-"yeah. what has it come to???

Old compared to what? Considering when it came out there were few books like that before.
well i've only read (from this list) percy jackson, vampire academy, the mortal instruments, and the twilight saga (which compared to vampire academy sucks). the maximum ride series: i started reading the angel experiment but couldn't finish reading it because it was so slow and boring. my mom just bought the hunger games series so im planning on reading them when i go back home (because im not home right now). i strated reading harry potter and the philosopher's stone so far i've liked it.the other ones some i've heard of but not read because i probably wasn't interested when i read their descriptions and some others i've never heard of...
My favorite:
1- Percy Jackson
2- Vampire Academy
3- The Mortal Instruments
4- The Hunger Games (i haven't read it bur im pretty sure im gonna like it)
5- The Twilight Saga

It's hard to explain. To me it's like the whole wizard theme is old. It's constantly used. I mean the sword of truth series (which I do love) uses wizards, the mortal instruments series (again, love the series), etc all have wizards. So you kinda see that in a good deal of books nowadays...ya still having a hard time explaining what I mean. Sorty if I sound really...vague b/c of not being able to spit out what I wanna say the right way. XP

True, but Harry was first.............It's okay though, I get what you mean and it is something that varies because you may have read other books first so by the time you got to a particular book you were tired of the theme or genre.
So, after posting the obligatory Twilight-bashing comment, I reckon this list is decent. I love Harry Potter - I have the audiobooks (Stephen Fry - he is a god) and I listen to them in the car, travelling, when I'm going to sleep...all the time. (I do listen to music too - just Harry Potter as well). I read the first Maximum Ride (The Angel Experiment, I think it was) but I stopped after that because the writing was too flawed - every page, at least, I'd find a sentence that would just jolt me out of the place I go when I'm reading.
The Mortal Instruments series is decent - I read the first three and they were good reads, though a bit cliched. The 'twist' at the end of the first one was a true Star Wars moment.
I haven't read Percy Jackson, Vampire Academy or even Twilight apart from a bit of the first one - I just stopped after that. It was too awful.
My top 10 books/series (not necessarily YA) would be:
1. Harry Potter
2. His Dark Materials
3. LotR
4. The Book Thief
5. Stardust
Contenders for 6-10 (not in any particular order)
Cloudstreet
Never Let Me Go
Chaos Walking
Neverwhere
The Hunger Games
Anansi Boys
Brave New World
Night
Going Postal
The Princess Bride

So true. New books don't really capture the essence. And Irene, I guess that's a way to put it. I had read a lot of wizard books before I even thought about touching HP books... XP

Well it doesn't matter anyway. Sorry if I irritated you. Have the feeling I did. Anyway....is anyone else going to see the hunger game movie when it comes out?
Emily wrote: "YES!!! I will try and go to the midnight showing! I will be really really angry if they mess it up!"Amen! I'm gonna see if I can go to the midnight showing too. ;) I doibt they'll mess it up. They're supposed to have made the movie as close to the book as they can.
Actually it's the other way around. Read the lord of the rings first. Then the other books. But ya I see what you're saying. Valid point.

Your parents worried about grades?

Cy wrote: "ummm what happened to number 10?"There were two books tied for number 9, so there were 10 books, but not a number 10. (There was also a tie for 5, so there was no 6)

Thanks for the list and the recommendations. I'm making my own list and adding these. And it is interesting that readers seem to like to read a series.

3. The prisoner of Azkaban
4. Catching Fire
5. The Sorcerers stone
6. Found
